Chizik while he was here
Just sitting here and listening to Murph and Andy and they were talking about how fake Chizik was while he was here at ISU while giving interviews. I know we are all suppose to be over him and i think we are, but just when i think back a few years back he really was fake. I'm not sure i ever saw him smile once in Ames. He gave the dumbest answers to media while being interviewed. How could Jamie Pollard be so blind?

Re: Chizik while he was here
Chizik wasn't a bad hire. He was the DC for a national championship team and was a hot coaching candidate anywhere.
Who Chizik went on to hire was the mistake.

Rhoads is the Anti-Chizik.
I love the way he is so honest and straightforward in interviews. I almost want him to be less open because he says so much about how things really are with guys on the team.

Re: Chizik while he was here
I'll admit that he seemed unemotional, but I kind of sensed that he was just a very removed kind of guy. I never thought he was fake when he was here and all the things he said seemed genuine when he said them. Basically, he's a really good liar. We all knew that he would jump ship as soon as he could, but we thought he was going to win and try to turn this program around before he did it. As discussed before, he's a turd sandwich and there's no point in thinking about it anymore.

Re: Chizik while he was here
If you had a chance through Gridiron Club or other means to hear him speak to the faithful in the early days of his tenure you wouldn't be singing that tune. No fault of JP's in the hire, didn't work out for either party, we are in a better situation now with CPR. Not sure why the need to bring up Chiz or bash JP....

Still, win only 5 games in 2 years, and double your salary and get to play Bama on TV every year and recruit in limos. He was a magician. Peter's Principle.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -
Re: Chizik while he was here
Why does everyone blame everything on Pollard? Everyone was excited when we hired him and everyone knew he was going to leave once he did good things here. No one thought teams were going to be offering him jobs after going 5-19, not Pollard's fault.

Re: Chizik while he was here
Good hire that didn't work out, largely because he made bad hires and didn't inherit a whole ton of talent.
He made his money and moved on. We really should move on, too.

Re: Chizik while he was here
Another pro-Rhoads comparison. Rhoads looks classy on gameday. What was with Chizik and the plain grey sweatshirts?

Re: Chizik while he was here
I always thought of Chizik as a little like Steve Alford. They just thought they are a little too big of person for where they are coaching.
You should hear the stories I have about Chizik pretty much straight up yanking his kids out of school at Gilbert, tells you what he was really all about...

Who Chizik went on to hire was the mistake. Agreed. We'll never know for sure who wouldve come in, but if he'd gotten gus malzahn here (i remember him being on the lists) that wouldve been a big step.
He deserves all the crap for how he left, and im more than happy we have rhoads, but i wouldnt necessarily say things wouldntve improved while he was here.

Re: Chizik while he was here
If Chizik had hired better assistants it would have made all the difference. You bring the coordinators here that he took to Auburn. He probably would still be here.

Re: Chizik while he was here
A win - win situation for the ages: McD to CU and Chizm to AU.

No one thought teams were going to be offering him jobs after going 5-19, not Pollard's fault. Because much like blaming everything that went wrong on Saturday on Arnaud (because you just HAVE to pick one man...), the easiest thing to do is to just blame everything that's wrong with ISU athletics on JP. Nevermind that things weren't so great under BVdV or the guys before him, nevermind that the AD budget is in the black and almost self-sufficient (which means we're almost through with taking money from the state to stay afloat) while at the same time building new facilities and giving much needed renovations to existing facilities, nevermind that the overall health of ISU athletics has never been better (30ish ranking in the Director's Cup, highest ever for ISU) and the revenue sports of football and men's basketball are improving. Who has time to educate one's self by doing a little bit of research? It's much easier to be completely naive to what's actually going on with the ISU AD and just look at 4 bad years for football and men's basketball and say, "wow - JP MUST be a horrible AD"...
