how come Canada doesn't produce a whole lot of DI FB players?

considering that Canada has more people than Texas (which is a football factory) why don't they produce many football players? Is it because of cold or is it that football isn't emphasized?

For the same reason that Costa Rica, Norway, China, and Suriname don't produce a whole lotta' D1 football talent - really strict helmet import laws.

Agreed, same reason Europe doesn't produce a lot of football players. Football is generally an afterthought outside of the US.

Canada has a population similar to Nebraska, they also share the fact with Nebraska of unevenly distributed population, so naturally the amount of D-1 players would be less.

first off Hockey is King!!! but the main reason is the youth football programs arent there and the coaching at those levels is no where near what the US youth programs can offer.
Prime example Eden Prairie came to Winnipeg and dressed two teams and played Canadian rules. They played two Winnipeg High School teams, one average team and one of the top 2 teams in the province. They won both games easily and never gave up a point.

It's probably because collegiate football is so underemphasized in Canada. High School ball is popular, as is CFL, but large Canadian universities draw like crap for their collegiate teams. The University of Manitoba, which is about the same size as ISU, has a stadium that looks like North High's in DSM.

Football is definitely visible in Canada, but it's a complete afterthought at the collegiate level.

I lived in Northwestern Alaska for three years. Football was non-existent there; it wasn't played at the high school level or any level. Cross country skiing had a bigger following than football.

I think it's because they are a bunch of pansies. I used to think Canadians were tough, but Justin Morneau's 3-month concussion has me thinking otherwise.
