Re: "Paul Rhodes is a good football coach"

You know how I know Paul Rhoads is a good coach? Because were outplayed and outmatched in every facet of the game and still had a legitimate shot to win by the end of the game.

PR can go from good to great if he uses Tiller instead of Arnaud next week. The four year sample size is good enough, we know what we have. We also have a small one-game sample size for Tiller (nebraska). I'd like to see him get his feet wet this season.

Re: "Paul Rhodes is a good football coach"

I don't think that coaching is the problem here. I'm not thrilled with some of the calls on O, especially on the last drive... Maybe AA is lights out in practice against our D and is shocked to deal with other Ds... I think that defensively we are doing the best with what we've got. Our offense is really not looking very good.

I should say that our head coach is not the problem. Our OC isn't doing very well with his players. AA is bascially turning bad calls into first downs using his legs.

lets compare DMac and CPR in several years.

my guess is that CPR will have a better record in that time.

He's a good coach. This is not a good team. This is not even an average team. Our D is weak (and we expected it to be), but our offense in BAD! As in really bad. From play calling to to play execution this is a really poor offense. This was not expected and that is why it is so disappointing. All sizzle and no steak.

Re: "Paul Rhodes is a good football coach"

CPR is a good coach, he just does not have a lot to work with. ISU is undersized and under talented. I think the Clones will still win a couple more games, but UNI and NIU might be the only two teams on the schedule that have less size and talent than ISU, and that is probably very close.

It looks like he is planning on building the team with 5 year guys, so don't expect it to get a lot better next year. The defense in particular is undersized.

NIU put up a good fight against Ill. We could have really used a W today, I think that CPR can get our team back on track.

I've always been a CPR fan. Just saying that in terms of putting a positive spin on losses, he and Mac are identical. Identical.

I just don't see this happening... if Tiller was that much better than Arnaud, he'd already be playing. And since Arnaud is a senior, I wouldn't expect it until after the Texas game, when we'll mathematically be out of bowl contention. But even then, so you bring him back for Senior Day, last game of the year? I guess you could do that.. I dunno.

Maybe it'll be good for Tiller to get his feet wet a little bit, but I've never gotten the feeling the staff sees him as the next sure thing, just that he is the most capable backup right now. So I guess he'd want some reps if he's definitely gonna be out starter next year, but who knows what's going to happen.

Do we really have significantly less talent than KSU? I do not think so. We both have good RBs, questionable QBs and no defense.

BTW, I note Coach Snyder is also 2 years into his program, and they canned their last coach, yet Snyder he's beaten us twice now.

I was really pleased with last season but we only went 6-6 in the regular season and didn't have to beat anyone outside of Nebby. And let's face it--Nebby beat themselves that day much more than we beat them.

And I will admit--the timing of this posts stinks. It isn't really prompted by the results of today's game since I didn't expect us to win anyway. I have been wondering it for awhile. Is he considered "good" because we scraped together 7 wins last year? Because he gave a passionate post game speech?

I do think that either way we could do a LOT worse than Coach Rhoads. I don't think he's "bad" I'm more wondering if he's much more average than good.

This is the understatement of the year. BEFORE this game we were the 100th ranked rush defense, and it isn't getting any better. We want to pour on our offense for being soooo awful but they only turned the ball over once and with that exception, never left our D in a bad field position.

Our D has to do something different or teams are going to keep running over us....literally...
Yep, this thread has just been pwned.

I agree with this as well. Gotta do what you can with your players, and although maybe you take a shot down the field once in a while with A-Rob, obviously this offense just CAN'T do that. 5 yards and in. Dink and dunk. Screens, etc.

Re: "Paul Rhodes is a good football coach"

One of Mac's problems was that he held onto assistants who weren't getting the job done.
If our offense keeps looking like this (and KSU's defense was exposed against Missouri State) then CPR needs to pull the trigger and replace Herman.
