Northern Iowa has 5 new starters on the O-Line
Just heard Gary Rima on "2 Guys Named Jim" say that the Panthers have five new starters on the offensive line.
This is a GREAT opportunity for Iowa State's defensive front seven to gain some confidence.

I don't mean to be negative but I'm willing to bet we still get very little pass rush.

Re: Northern Iowa has 5 new starters on the O-Line
Yeah, I hate the fact that I am just doom and gloom about our football team lately, but add me as another in the camp that expects us to struggle to get pressure up front. We had a tough time getting pressure with our front 4 last year even against lesser competition, and we are weaker up front this year than last.
I'm not predicting a loss to UNI, but I'm also not expecting a walk in the park, and the defensive front is a big part of that.

Re: Northern Iowa has 5 new starters on the O-Line
UNI is a good team even in rebuilding years. They aren't going to lay down and take it. UNI expects to win. I don't see the ISU defense running over their o-line regardless of how many guys are first year starters.

5 new starters but all have been in the program for several years.
Left Tackle - RS Jr
Left Guard - RS Jr
Center - RS-Sr
Right Guard - RS So (6 starts at FCS program that dropped football last year)
Right Tackle - RS So
All 5 are in at least their 3rd year of D1 football.

I do get your point though, and hopefully this is what is going to start happening at ISU. Replacing starters with Junior and Seniors that have played rather than JC and freshman that are beating out guys that should not have been in the program in the first place.

UNI is Division I, just IAA, but they are DI

I think everyone here knows that UNI is D1 FCS and not FBS like ISU, I didn't feel it necessary to add the FCS.

Div I-AA was better nomenclature.

Div I-AA was better nomenclature. I agree... but I also understand the reasoning for the change I just don't think they came up with a good solution. Basically, they wanted to get football in the name in some way to emphasize that the subdivision only refers to Football and not the other sports. There’s no such thing as a Div I-AA basketball team for example, it’s just D1. -

All 5 are in at least their 3rd year of D1 football. How long will it be before the same is said of UNI? Any news on when and how UNI is going to get off of public funds?

This is a GREAT opportunity for Iowa State's defensive front seven to gain some confidence. opportunity is the key word, but I'll believe it when I see it. I haven't seen Iowa State dominate on the D-Line in some time, that's why we get forced to go with the "bend but don't break" defense. I'd be surprised if we have over 2 sacks against UNI and more than likely they'll be "coverage" sacks. UNI has a lot of new faces from last years team, but it's not like they are all freshman out there, Farley just reloads at the FCS level. I expect Iowa State to win, but i don't think we'll get a blowout without UNI making some big mistakes. We're just not good enough to force TO's at this point. I mean I love AK 47 and his INT TD on sat, but that was just a flat out bad pass straight to him by a crappy QB in Coffman. We should have had 8-9 in the box and let him try and beat us all game long. We need some guys ripping the ball out, reading the QB once in awhile and jumping the route, etc.

You'd think last year's turnover successes would have these guys hungry for this. The second guy to the tackle should always be going for the ball if he has any angle to it. I was really disappointed that it apparently wasn't a point of emphasis when ever Coffman ran with it. We would have him stopped and nobody would even put a hand on the ball. He's a QB, guys, try to strip it when you've got a chance!
