    Tailgating with a Dog???

Ok... Not trying to tell people they should do this or shouldn't do this. Just have some common sense people and pay attention to you dog. How hard is that??

I was parked next to a few kids yesterday. They had 2 yellow labs and 1 smaller dog. Two out of the three dogs were great dogs. One of the yellow labs though wasn't so much and it's probably not the dogs fault when these kids didn't pay attention to it unless I was yelling at the damn thing. Half the time they didn't realize they had a dog.

These guys had 2 vehicles they were tailgating behind. So what do they do?? They tie up their dog to the tire of their truck next to my truck. Not between their two vehicles. The dog was constantly knocking down chairs. Trying to get on our table to get to our food. Wrapping its leash around our tent legs.

Then all 6 of them decided to play catch and leave the dog totally unattended while taking the other 2. Leaving us to babysit the damn thing. Finally my buddy went over to them and asked them to tie their dog up away from us, and they acted like we were doing something wrong. They took it personally. Seriously???

Now I don't mind people with dogs. But please pay attention to it, and keep it within your damn spot and out of mine. I didn't bring a crying baby to bother them, or a little kid wondering into their stuff. I did nothing to bother them at all which is the way I would think it should be.

Sorry for the rant.. And sorry if the people with the dog are reading this, please show some common sense and common courtesy... Ohh and next time pick up your dog's land mines...

I've always wondered what the people who bring their dogs with them do during the game? Do they go home?

Why would you bring a dog to a tailgate in the first place?

Were they single guys trying to pick up chicks?

I guess it's the new cool thing to do... I saw probably about 10 people with dogs yesterday. Guessing not many of them made it into the game. All about the tailgate.

I'm a dog person through and through. And bringing your dog to the game is just stupid unless you're a blind person.

That's what I was trying to get at, I just didn't word it so eloquently!

I love my dogs, and I would never subject them to and make them vulnerable to that many drunken idiots. All it takes is one stupid person to think that it's funny to give my dog alcohol or do something to it while I'm not looking.

    Re: Tailgating with a Dog???

Not to excuse bad dog owners, but some people it makes sense to bring the dog. I live in DSM, and I was gone for over 8 hours yesterday, and we didn't even tailgate that long. That is a long boring time for a dog. So I can see bring dogs with. If I did it, I would have my dog kennel with to put the dog in while I was in the game.

I don't mind people bringing dogs, as long as they are watching them, but I can see why they may upset some people.

I have always been a dog person but I couldn't bring a dog to the game. Heck I'm busy playing bags, grilling, having fun that the dog wouldn't get attention. Half the time the wife doesn't get attention.

Plus, I have a nice big back yard that a dog would be more then happy to roam around for hours while I was gone, or a dog kennel.

    Re: Tailgating with a Dog???

If you live out of town then it is a lot of times easier to bring them than find someone to watch them or let them out. We've brought ours and left ours in the car in good weather like yesterday. It's better than leaving them in their kennel for 9-10 hours.

Yeah.... I could probably understand that point clonehomer, but I'm sure you at least pay attention to your dog. Just a hint since your concerned about leaving the dog alone that long in a kennel.

    Re: Tailgating with a Dog???

When I lived in Ames I would generally bring my Aussie Shepherd to the games. I had a girl who didn't have tickets so I would leave him with her when I went into the game. I always had him on a leash in my hand as well but he was a good dog and pretty well trained and just sat next to me when I was doing anything. As far as people tying them up and letting them bother people I totally agree with you but for me it was great not having to have the dog in a kennel all day long and then all night when I went to the bars after the game.

Oh yeah and it was great walking around when every girl in sight wanted to come over and pet him

If you bring a dog to the game and do not leave it in the car/back of a truck, etc, you are a dumbarse.
