I think it comes down to a "manliness" thing. Why is it that this is the ONLY song that people complain about. Are you telling me that with ALL of the music that's played throughout the course of a game, this is the only one that you "don't like"? That this is the only one "inappropriate for a football game"? Really?

I liken this debate to the group of people that complained when our players walked out of the Jacobson Building holding hands while walking onto the field.

They play Sweet Caroline every freaking home game. Did that help ISU beat Texas, Kansas, Missouri (for the Big 12 championship), K-STATE (down at Arrowhead Stadium), etc.

And if the student section needs this song to interject some life back into the team, then heaven help us.

Nobody likes comparisons to Iowa, but does the Iowa band play "In Heaven there is no Beer" after a loss? The tradition is to play it after a win.

I am not a win at all cost type of person, but who wants to have a "good feeling" after a loss? "

I would like to hear a coach or player say after a loss, "Yep, we lost, but wasn't it great the crowd got a good feeling by playing Sweet Caroline. Wasn't it cool the way the were all swaying to the music."

You're missing my point. I don't know if it's intentional or not, but you are completely missing the point.

Nothing that comes over that sound system is going to have a significant effect on the team. I think we've all come to accept ths. It does, however, affect the crowd. People get tired around that 3rd to 4th quarter transistion, especially if the team is doing poorly. You apparently get ****** and cheer louder, so kudos to you for that, but 90% of people just shut down if the team is struggling, because football is entertainment and bad play by your team isn't fun. If the stadium crew has an ace up their sleeve that they know will get people back on their feet and having fun again, why would you throw that away?

In the Texas Tech game it looked like ISU was going to **** it down their pants like we always do and guess what they didn't.

I think you missed my point. You are right, nothing works after some of the things mentioned. But playing a "feel good" song like "Sweet Caroline" only makes it worse. It sends a message, "Yeah, we suck, but we are having a good time."

I don't think that sweat caroline had anything to do with our team finishing strong against texas tech. But if i'm a player on the sidelines and that song plays and all those students stand up, it may say look we're still here supporting you guys. Its positive even if its a little gay...

I'm just saying that there's all kinds of this hokie stuff in sports. The nebraska mascot is really stupid but the kids love it and its probably grown on them. Whats more unimpressive than the kansas jayhawk mascot but in college basketball it reps winning and the state of kansas takes pride in it.

Well it kept the game fun and more importantly, kept them feeling good about wanting to come out to ISU games when the team was playing like crap. Why is that so damn bad?

Listen Cyrocks, I know you're a pro on this board and i'm only a recruit but i've been going isu games since 77 and have seen every square inch of jack trice. Through all the losing I've seen over the years and some of the success that mc carney and rhoades have brought. Nothing makes me happier when a bunch of young college kids support their football team, have some fun and let loose.
