If this was a morning game and we won on some crazy play, or we completely shallacked Utah and it was on every ticker and every highlight show for the entire day then enough voters would see it that we would probably end up getting the votes to get in. Since it's at night, not enough voters will see or hear enough about the game, even if we win, to vote us up. I don't think that's it at all. It's not like this game is Pacific prime time or anything. Iowa's defensive pwnage of Penn St last week showed up on all of the highlights, and it was a night game as well.
With Utah, they are non-AQ-top-10 team that the media is looking for any reason to discredit. As it stands, a lot of people in the media, not to mention here and even in SLC, question whether Utah even deserves the #10 ranking because they struggled with a less-than-impressive Pitt team and haven't played anyone else with a pulse since. There is something to be said when the media is saying that Utah going to face it's first "real test" when they play ISU this Saturday. When was the last time the national media gave ISU THAT kind of respect? If ISU beats Utah on Saturday, yes, the media is going to give ISU a lot of credit. But even more so, the media will use this as an opportunity to state that Utah isn't worthy of a top-10 ranking and will take a heavy hit in the polls, maybe falling outside of the top 20. While ISU has a lot to gain from a win like this, Utah will lose a lot more than ISU gains.

Why worry about this when the game still has to happen first? This thread is a waste of time.

Re: If we beat Utah, should we crack top 25?
Like others have said, a loss hurts Utah more than a win helps us. If a team from a non AQ gets beat by a BCS team the media usually looks at it as that non AQ team was overrated, that would over shadow our accomplishment.

Re: If we beat Utah, should we crack top 25?
I'd say we'd start geting votes if we beat them. Too bad we have to go to Oklahoma and Texas after this game.

Re: If we beat Utah, should we crack top 25?
I dont even think we would be receiving votes, we were humiliated on national tv by Iowa

Lets just be happy we aren't nervously watching the ESPN Bottom 10.

I could see Utah dropping at least 5 spots with a loss (depending on what other teams below them do, of course). It wouldn't be seen as a bad loss, necessarily, but if you couple it with the fact it means Utah would have no real quality wins, several teams ranked lower in one or both polls would probably jump ahead (Arkansas, Arizona (now 11th in USA today poll), Miami, Iowa, Michigan State.
Also, I think it's wrong to claim the OP was overzealous by posing the question. The answer to 'should we be top 25?' is realistically 'no,' but it's just a what-if.
It'd be different if the post was "If ISU beats Utah, it should bring a top 25 ranking." If ISU would win, Utah will drop more than 5 spots regardless of what happens to teams below them. I would say they would drop down to the 20 to 25 range. Iowa dropped 1 spot after beating ISU 35-7. -

We stayed at #9 in the AP, but lost points. We dropped from 9th to 10th in the Coaches Poll, but gained points.
Really, it had more to do with Oklahoma's ***-kicking of Florida State than anything else. It was a weekend with several big matchups. A lot of movement occurred within the polls.

Re: If we beat Utah, should we crack top 25?
There are no 2 loss teams in the top 25 right now, although there likely will be next week. I think it would be hard to find a two loss team with wins against better teams and losses against better teams. Iowa is obviously very good and Kstate is gonna crack the top 25 here soon.

If we beat Utah, and KSU beats neb, KSU will make a huuuuuuuuuuuge jump.

No that won't happen until we win our next 3 games in a row! Then sure maybe we crack 25

At 5-1 with a win over a Top Ten team, absolutely. It would be a crime not to be ranked.
At 4-2 with the same win, we should have votes and maybe some popular sentiment.
