I wonder if Loney would be interested. He was up there for a couple of years when they had their best offenses.

I wish DMac was an assistant coach back here... bring on the hate :)
"I think that people are responding to someone standing up and saying this is what we want to do and let's not be afraid to go for it,'' Pollard said. "I think Iowa State has a very conservative, modest background. We never pound our chest and say `Let's do it.' It's OK to set a goal. You can't do it if you don't say what you want to do. You should be proud of it.''

    Re: Dienhart: McCarney to Minnesota?

Mason was Minnesota's McCarney. Is they want to return to those days, then its a good hire. They let Mas go, because that wasn't good enough. Back the Brink's truck up to Chris Peterson's house and hire him.
"I'm proud to lead this program and this team in whatever we do. Whether it's a community service project, or through practice or winning a bowl game, but you don't do that without the kids believing and being all in, and going out there and accomplishing all [of] the goals and expectations that we set." - Coach Paul Rhoads

It would lead to metric tons of wasted newsprint with lazy columns by Shawn Keeler and it would make this site fairly unbearable with comparison threads in all directions. I hope Danny Mac gets a chance to coach again b/c I think he desperately wants it, but I hope it's not at a bordering or easily comparable program to ours. How about one of the F_U schools?
Sorry to everyone wishing him the best, but the above is abolutely the truth. Any success Dan would have would be detrimental to ISU and our fanbase. I want Dan to be a head coach again, but at a non-BCS school. If he were to succeed at a BCS or high mid-major school, ther would be no end to the complaining about letting him go.

Having said that, I think there is absolutely no way Minn would hire DMac. Minnesota is a better job than ISU. The Big10 is a stronger conferend, Minn is the only school in the state, and they have better facilities than us. Also, Minneapolis being a pro sports town is actually better for a non-dominant team. Whoever gets the job will not be under a microscope and can build a team easier than at ISU. ISU has to try and compete with an obviously more popular team in Iowa and has no pro sports to draw attention away from anything negative like a bad loss.

DMac is a great guy, but he's a hard working program builder, not a high level head coach. He can coach up lesser talent and win some games, but he will never be a guy who wins the conference and dominates. Its just not his coaching style. He's a perenial underdog coach and DMac coached teams will always come back down to earth.

I'm not sure Danny Mac would want the gig. I've heard that he would prefer a mid major school if he was going to be a HC again.

    Mike Leach

McCarney would get his head bashed in against Nebraska, Michigan & Mich. State every year, plus I think they play Wisconsin every year as their rival.

So Minnesota would be pretty stupid to hire a guy like McCarney and expect wins....

If they were smart they go get Mike Leach. Theres a guy who went to 10 bowls in a row, beat Texas a few times and can sling the ball around like no other. He'd tear a new hole into that conference.

Mike Leach would be the perfect fit for the Goofers.

The Minny job is down to Mac and Ditka.
The difference is Ditka wants the home games to be in the Rollerdome.

    Re: Dienhart: McCarney to Minnesota?

After Minnesota lost to Northwestern the local sports talk media had Tony Dungy as THE GUY. Nothing against Mac, but How do you go from Dungy to Mac in a weeks time?

I suspect Mac is as big a rumor as Dungy was. With neither being legit. Minnesota needs an up and comer to take the reigns from Brewster.

Same for linebackers and secondary. Better defenses all around.

Some of us weren't around for the Bruce era.

Some of the D-Lines under DMac were much better than the current DLine.

I believe initially Brewster fired up the fanbase because when he was hired he immediately said that he would bring the Gophers to the Rose Bowl. Also he was a great recruiter and he has NFL experience.
