    Re: Dienhart: McCarney to Minnesota?

I think that Mac would be a good hire for the Gophers. He has a way of making marginal teams better. He would probably recruit better than a ISU because he would have a ton of Florida connections now. Also, a lot of people look at his overall record and say no way. Well, when he got to ISU the program was an absolute mess, and it took several years to get it back on track. In addition, ISU paid for Mac to learn how to be a head coach in the first 6 years of his contract. There is no doubt that he was a much better HC when he left ISU then he was when he got there.

The big issue is money. MN is not likely to offer much more money than Mac is currently making as an asst. for the Gators. It is unlikely he would go back to the Big 10 just because he misses beating Iowa.

Semantics, maybe, but I would say that people believed we had peaked under McCarney, and wanted to try to be more than just mediocre. I still believe we made the right decision.

I agree that Mac had to go, but a lot of his problems in the later years were because he could not hang on to good coordinators and the coaching and recruiting both suffered. If the Gophers can get him enough money to hire and keep good Asst. coaches, he would be fine. Also, Mac has probably learned his lesson on getting rid of guys that are not cutting it.

Brewster doesnt seem like much of a head coach but i sure wouldnt mind having him on the staff, the guy can recruit pretty well.

Mac is probably making $300-500k as DL coach at UF. With the Big 11 money, Minny could easily offer $2M for a HC.

Dan should just enjoy his Iowa State millions in the Florida sun. The chance of Minnesota hiring him are between 1% and zero.

    Re: Dienhart: McCarney to Minnesota?

Let me just say that Minnie could do a lot WORSE THAN DAN MCCARNEY!!!!

If the Gophers hire Danny Mac and stay with him for 5/6 years he will turn the program around and it will be bowl games for 5 outta 6 years.

The bonus for a new coach at minnie is that with the big 10 / 12 going to divisional play you only have to beat Iowa and Nebraska to get to the champ game!!!! SWEET DEAL BOYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NEW STADIUM AND A NEW COACH equals A NEW WINNING TRADITION!!!
