Re: Again, I ask...
Time to get with the program boys.....Not only is Paul Rhoads a good coach but more important....Rhoads is a GOOD FIT FOR IOWA STATE.
Just look at what gene chizik did at ISU....Ten straight losses because he could not field a defense that could stop anyone...
Get with the program guys and gals and keep supporting the clones and go to the games....this is a rough stretch but it will end and things will get better..
Go Cyclones Beat the Longhorns...

Re: Again, I ask...
Every ISU coach will be heavily supported by the ISU fans until multiple years of consistently bad results. After that, the coach will be supported by at least 50% of the fanbase until he leaves the team. If that happens, 95% of ISU fans will consider the coach worthless.
Because of Paul Rhoads' pure passion and desire for ISU, I hope he never gets to that point. If he can make bowl games, beat the bad teams, and compete with average teams winning more than not, I will be able to look past the blowout losses to top 10 teams.

That said, "good" is a relative term. Troll is a specific term. Go away.

Recruit
Re: Again, I ask...
Its not about X's and O's its about the jimmys and Joes...I heard this from someone on ESPN yesterday, and its VERY true.
Paul Rhoads will need to recruit decent players or else it doesn't matter how good of a coach he is.
We look like an FCS team physically...

Re: Again, I ask...
Is he a good coach...yes Is he a mythical god who's teams are invincible...no. If your not impressed by what he's done here so far then you're not going to be happy with any coach in the country. When you lose by 90+ points over a 2 week stretch its obvious it was more than coaching that lost those games.
The only bigger turnoff than finding out a woman smokes, is finding out she's a Husker fan. -

Just as idiotic as calling him a good coach right now.
Which, again, is my whole point.

Which, again, is my whole point. I think he's a good coach right now, though the last two games aren't a great indication of that. He and the staff beat some teams this year that the prior regime would not have (TT, NIU, UNI) IMHO. I'm not ready to jump off the ship just because top 10 opponents with good offenses are handling us easily. This team, as bad as we've played the last two weeks, could still be in bowl contention right up to the end. They've game planned pretty well, but against good offensive teams they aren't going to look good with the lack of depth we have. If we're still having the same conversation in year 5 of CPR's regime, I'd probably agree with you.

Besides just being a troll of course.

Which, again, is my whole point. You act as if being a "good coach" is somehow a provable fact. It's not, it's an opinion. Many different people have many different criteria for what makes someone a good coach. It is simply impossible to ever prove that anyone is a good coach. So when a person says that Paul Rhoads is a good coach, just accept that it is just his or her opinion.
BTW- Will you be starting a thread like this after any of our wins?

We know that Rhoads can coach a good game. What we don't know yet is whether he can recruit, and, more importantly for a place like Ames, develop his players. Until we find out otherwise he has my complete backing. He is a great coach for the season, and in a year or two we'll know if he's also somebody that can make ISU go in the offseason.
I'm embarrassed for ISU football tonight, but not for any individual players or coaches. Our guys are doing what they can, they are just outgunned. I think that you have it right. Rhoads IS a good coach. He's installed the right culture, does well with the fans and media and makes good calls on gameday as far as clock management and decision-making. What we DON'T know right now is how he does recruiting and developing players. That's something that we won't know for another couple years. The staff certainly isn't beating out a lot of BCS teams for talent, but if they do a good job at spotting and developing underated players, that doesn't matter a bunch. I'll say that the JUCOs they've brought in so far have been slightly disappointing...Chris Young, Givens and Casper couldn't crack the two-deep at average to poor positions and are redshirting. Brooks isn't seeing time at one of our worst positions. Anthony Young hasn't seen much time at CB either. The staff kind of fell into Sims and Reynolds, so you can't give them a lot of credit there. The S&C guys did a good job at Rice, so we'll see in that area.
