Chizik's Recruits comment
Anyone else catch the comment made by the PBP announcers in the game, about how Chizik had great recruiting classes in the short time he was there? What's the thoughts on that being true? Personnally, I think the guys Mac recruited and some that CPR has have made more of an impact than GC's recruits. Thoughts?

Chizik's best recruit was Grant Mahoney.

Re: Chizik's Recruits comment
We were all excited, but in retrospect, his recruits weren't anything better than what Mac was bringing in. Of course, some of the guys still have a year or two to prove themselves...which very well may happen, but his recruiting wasn't outstanding, even on ISU standards.

Re: Chizik's Recruits comment
Pretty similar talent to what Mac brought in, but not quite as bad of a washout rate.

Re: Chizik's Recruits comment
To be fair, Chizik gave us the best chance we've had by bringing in talent and playing it early. He would have had us in a bowl game last year based on the fact that the schedule was easy, and he was building for last year to be a turn around year. Ok, maybe he wouldn't have gotten Nebraska to give us the ball 8 times, but to act like coach Rhoads did something amazing last year is ridiculous. I think Paul is a much better man than Chizik and better fit at ISU, but way to early to say he's a better coach. Chizik brought in talent that so far hasn't been matched by coach Rhoads. Coach rhoads does a better job of feeding the fanbase lines that we've got talent coming. We'll see if that's backed up by on the field performance.

Chizik's recruiting classes weren't amazing but they weren't bad either. He also did other things to improve recruiting that aren't noticed.

I think Chizek brought in some good talent. He also hurt instate recruiting by not recruiting Iowa kids and not building relationships with Iowa High school coaches. Not only damaged instate recruiting while he was here but hurt our instate recruiting for another couple of years until those relationships are developed again.

We didn't go to a bowl game because of the players that Chizik brought in and played early. Those guys are still here. Though those players were good contributors, we went to a bowl on the backs of good senior leadership, most of whom were recruited by Dan McCarney. I have a hard time believing Chizik would have had the same results as Rhoads considering he only won two games the year before with basically the same schedule. Rhoads won two more games last year than Chizik won in two years. To pretend that isn't a great accomplishment is ludicrous. Rhoads SAVED this program and will right the ship.
