Re: Capello Needs to Start at Home vs. KU
I'm not sold on Arnaud being our best chance to win.

I think they may have given us a better chance of not losing...see UNI. Perhaps AA has learned to not take as many chances after watching Tiller v UNI.
Minnesota game sums up AA's career thus far.

This post actually has nothing to do with this thread, though it seems like as good of a place as any to put it, given the "Productive" discussion of such a "thought provoking" topic...
Re: Capello Needs to Start at Home vs. KU
The only game Arnaud has clearly lost was the '09 Iowa game. Every other game we've lost with him at the helm there were bigger problems than QB play.
If you're winning the QB gets too much credit, and if you lose they get too much blame.
This doesn't mean Arnaud is playing well right now, because he obviously isn't. However, Arnaud could be playing out of his mind, and we'd still have at least 3 losses.

Absolutely not true.
This line is average (the play around it is not). However, when you play anywhere to 5-7 teams in the top 25, 3-4 of them in the top 10, average is not good enough (especially with below average QB and WR).

Hmmm, why is there no thread asking to see Albert Gary more? Our WR's have not played up to par. Why no thread asking to see Ethan Tuftee? Our OL can't create any holes for the RB. Why no thread asking for Aaron Moore at DE? Our ends are getting no pressure on the QB.
It's ridiculous that AA gets the blame for a game that we just lost 52-0. We averaged 1.8 yards per rush. Yep that is right, 1.8 yards per rush.

1.) Because part of the reason why the WRs look bad is the QB.
2.) Improvement at QB play effects the team more than improvement at one WR spot.
3.) Besides the OU game, OLine has been a lot better than people credit. Certainly better than AA, who makes them look bad. The QB and RB have been missing so many holes it is not funny. We used the zone read for three games without it actually being a read- that is on the QB/OC, not the line.
4.) That said, people have been calling for players at the Oline. Heck, Chris wrote an article on how we need help. The staff has rotated guys at that spot.
5.) DE has taken far more crap than AA. Plus, the staff has rotated guys in at that spot.
6.) No one is blaming AA for the loss to OU. It is based on 2 years worth of play. Good lines/bad lines/good opponents/bad opponents
Other positions have back-ups over take starters quite frequently (see Neal) and have rotations. Why is it asinine to ask for the same at QB?

And vice versa. Our QB play hasn't been that good, but it doesn't have to be when you can run the ball. That's backbone of Iowa's success. It's easier to recruit and put together a solid offensive line that can make holes and push the ball upfield, than it is to find a Top 10 or 15 QB. That's what AA would have to be in order for the offense to be sucessful with the line play and WR play. He has never been this, and I think most of us have been well aware of that, and accepted it. You could insert a good 80% of D1 QBs into our roster, and we'd still probably be 3-4. If we switched offensive and defensive lines with Iowa, we'd probably have at least 2 more wins.

Nobody has taken more flack than AA. Not even close
Listen, I don't think AA is doing very good at all. I think his pocket presence rates at a D. Instead of shuffling his feet to buy time in the pocket, he runs, but you are crazy if you think the WR's have played well to date.
Watch the defenders. They play the WR's at the Line of scrimmage. They are not worried about the WR's getting seperation at all. When was the last time we completed a pass and the WR was wide open? It hasn't happened. They need to do a better job, the line needs to do a better job, AA needs to do a better job, and the defense needs to do a better job. Calling out AA all the time is ridiculous with all that is wrong with this team right now
Re: Capello Needs to Start at Home vs. KU
1) Capello is unlikely to get a chance till he first passes Tiller on the depth chart. I have not seen him play, I would like to see him play but hopefully in a situation where we we have the game in hand and he can get some snaps so that the debate in the off season is more interesting (easy to argue for a guy most of us know little about when the current guy is having a hard time)
2) My opinion is Arnaud gives us the best chance to win...period. I don't think we win vs Tech as an example with anyone else in the game. Apparently the coaches are thinking the same since he keeps starting.
3) this thread is a reminder to me that while most of us are anonymous, our comments can affect the players or their family we are talking about. Of course it is no different on any other board, but I think it is irresponsible to call out a kid for what type of offers you think he got or even get personal about how a certain player is playing - fact is our TEAM hasn't been very good against top ten competition. there is no one fix to this, it will take the whole team improving immensely to be competitive in these games in the future.

What about all the times that AA is open and just plain throws it to the wrong receiver that is being covered. This happens way to many times each game. I'm not saying our WRs are great and don't deserve some of the blame, but as a poster above said, they do rotate in and out during the games and during practice.

Honestly not trying to disrespect James at all and apologize if it came off that way. Was more talking about the line of thinking by message board fans
A serious backpedal

The Dends take way more heat than AA. It just does not seem that way because no one sticks up for them- it is a dead issue.
No one is blaming AA for the loss to OU, or just looking at that game. It has been largely the same things for 3 years, regardless of line play, quality of opponent. Also, no one has said anything about the WR playing well.
How often do we call for routes that would take advantage of that coverage? I have seen receivers with less ability get loose via mistakes by the DB's. Yet we feast on curl and outs.
One reason is because Herman and the DC's know AA cannot exploit the defense. Why would the defense not press? AA has not shown he can accurately place the ball. A majority of separation is timing and routes. As a QB, it helps if you have the ability to anticipate and accurate enough to place the ball where it needs to be.
AA would not be good even if we had Utah and OU's WR.

I seriously doubt this. Tiller would look good throwing to Ryan Broyles.

If he's playing to learn the offense, it's a little late. I think AA should start the KU game, but I don't blame anyone for wanting the other guys. It's been frustrating to watch our offensive futility starting with Austen. As for Capello, who the hell knows how he will do until he plays. He's been in four plays and had a TD to his name.
This......How many more crappy passes does AA have to throw. I'd like to see Capello because he is known for being cool under pressure -- AA has PROVEN he is not. I called it the YIPS the last two years but now I'm convinced it's not correctable. Let's see what the kid can do -- it cannot hurt.
