    Stats Do Not Lie

2010 Iowa St. Football Ranking Summary

Iowa State Total Offense is #104
Iowa State Scoring Offense is #85

Iowa State Total Defense is #112
Iowa State Scoring Defense is #104

Turnover Margin (probably our best team stat) is #16

    Sacks - #112
    Sacks Allowed - #78
    Scoring Defense - #104
    Scoring Offense - #85

Punting - Kirby Van der Kamp is #13

Tackling - AJ Klein is #13, Jake Knot is #22, Sims is #44.

Interceptions - Knott and Klein at #35

Fieldgoals - Grant Mahoney is #55

Passing Efficiency - AA at #93, team at #110
    Passing Efficiency Defense - #91

We have been consistently lousy on both sides of ball although the defense looks worse. Most of that may be due to the offense going three and out. Kirby has had many chances to kick the ball as far as he can.

Weird you forgot strength of schedule.

Some people would say that strength of schedule does not matter - a loss is a loss, a win is a win.

Of course stats lie--they misrepresent the truth based upon opponents.

Yeah, I've always hated that line. If an team A starts a drive on the 50 and scores a touchdown agains Iowa's defense and Team B starts at their own 30 and scores a touchdown against San Jose State, does that make Team B's offense better?

The strength of schedule will pretty much stay the same under the new Big 12. Lose a Utah, add a Tulsa, lose a Nebraska and CU, play both Okies, Iowa and Texas each year. The future will not be much easier on strength of schedule. The good old days of not playing Okie or texas and going to a bowl two out of four years will be replaced with a strong schedule every year.

Pretend we just joined the SEC after playing in the Pac 10.

Hey, we are functioning as a #100 team on stats. There are around only 64 BCS teams.

If we had an easier schedule with no Utah and a couple of tweaks like a bye week, we might now be functioning at a #75 team clip on stats.

We need to reach at least #40-50 in yardage to be a challenge to the big boys in a game.

No, but they don't tell the whole story. Our stats are skewed somewhat because we played the toughest schedule in the nation. If we played another patsy instead of Utah they would look a little better.

Our numbers are not so bad against other middle of the pack Big 12 teams (Texas Tech, Kansas State).

And we are still where most of us though we would be after seven games.

Survive this weekend, beat KU at home and find 2 wins out of NU, CU or Mizzou and this season will be more impressive than last season.

This. If SOS were not debatable, there would be no debate as to whether Boise St, TCU, or Utah deserved to be in the BCS championship game or not.

Stats do lie sometimes, everybody knows that. Those stats would indicate a team is 1-6 or 0-7. ISU is 3-4.

Didnt need stats to figure that out. So what is your underlying point?

Some people are idiots. Sure, we should have done better... but why do you think that Northern Illinois looks so much better than we do on paper? Because they are better?
