Great response. Your last line about this fanbase's inability or refusal to call a spade a spade is right on the money
There is some fear in the fanbase that 50 point blowouts may be back in the equation after several years of little worry. That is why losing big at home (greater than 4 TDs) reawakened the "have we bit more off than we can chew."
The Iowa game could be rationalized. Not so mucvh for Utah which did not even move up in the rankings. The Okie game maybe was not quite as bad as Utah but it still soiled the carpet. That is three out of seven blowouts. The scores were not as bad as the action looked on the field.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style.
And some of us have had doubts since iowa last year and voiced those doubts again after iowa, KSU and UNI this year. While a majority have placed all the blame on AA, I have repeatedly said our whole offense is inconsistent. Not one unit is playing consistent football and that goes back to coaching. One game, TT, does not equate consistency. I will wait to pass judgement until year four but I am beginning to doubt.
I have no doubt that this staff will bring in the right guys for the system on both sides of the ball. CPR is the right man for the job. I know Tom Herman is going to do great things with our offense in the future. We have some good young O-line players stockpiled and we have some young talent at the skill positions as well. Now if we can just find "the guy" at QB to make the offense go we will be in great shape on offense. I can already see a big difference in the defense under the direction of Wally Burnham. Our secondary is solid and has tons of talent (potential) and our linebackers at least the top 3 and now a 4th are looking solid as well and will continue to get better. Obviously we need help on the D-line which is the hardest position on D to find but a few solid d-line recruits will allow the talent behind them on the field to show itself a bit more.
I was being very optimistic this season hoping for a 6-6 finish. Our schedule is an absolute monster and to that point I am not really shocked to see us sitting at 3-4 with 5 games to go. While I have been disappointed with some of our performances so far, I can see the big picture that things are going to get better and this staff will make us far more competitive. In all reality with the youth and the experience they are gaining this year if you add in a couple of solid D-line recruits and a QB that can sling it this team is going to be a force to be reckoned with in the BIG XII conference in the near future. I trust this staff to go out and get what we need.
