Re: We'll never compete with the big dogs with a bunch of Iowa boys

I totally understand what you are saying, but lets not forget about Utah and Oklahoma. We were embarrassed worst than I have ever seen in back to back weeks. There is enough talent instate to have a couple Iowa boys starting for our football team, not including special teams, but I would prefer not to start as many as we are right now.

It's good and right to be proud of our Iowa boys but we all know we need a very healthy compliment of southern talent. We have and will have it. More wins like yesterday means better recruiting all around. It's gonna be great. What a game!

Re: We'll never compete with the big dogs with a bunch of Iowa boys

And another thing, I could give a flying flip where any player comes from. Man made boundries on a map do not define who can and who can not play football. As long as they can play football and want to come to ISU and want to be a Cyclone and if CPR and staff want them than that is all I need to know.

I would love for ISU to get all the top talent in Iowa, who wouldn't? To me it's sort of an indicator of how well the program and coaching is being received/perceived from those on the out side. If ISU has trouble getting the local Iowa talent to buy into ISU how can they expect others to?

But in the end I could care less where they come from. Talent is talent. Once a Cyclone always a Cyclone. Why do peeps get so wrapped up where that talent comes from. Some peeps just don't get it. Silly really. Players play.

    2 observations:

Coach Whitt and his crew recruit their tails off during bye weeks. CPR has a big win to back his recruiting in the South. I hope he takes advantage of it during his bye week this year.

Second, your don't have to stack your squads with 4 & 5 star recruits. I think it would be fair to say Utah has its share of studs. The key is "Son, you can go there and sit the bench behind X's 4/5 star recruit or you can come here and play." Also, recruit the juco's for studs like Shaky. Even some of our best players are walk-ons with a good work ethic. I'm sure you can appreciate a good work ethic.

Utah has built well with lesser talent than the name programs, but higher rated players than ISU for a few years. We'll get there with CPR. As for the bye week comment, we don't have one this year, so no working extra recruiting for CPR on that one.

And plenty of other "Iowa Boys" who played big roles in yesterday's win at Big Bad Texas.

Listen, I don't discount the importance of recruiting the south, but I've heard way too many times from people (on this board too) who think our team begins and ends with recruiting in the south.
Sure, the numbers are greater down there, but I coach high school football here and travel around the country in the offseason to clinics and other schools, and can say the top talent here is as good as the top talent anywhere.
Throw in the tons of Iowa boys at that other school out east and you've got a pretty talented crew. In-state recruiting needs to be at the forefront especially with some incredible talent in the likes of Quentin James, Austin Ebertowski, and Amara Darboh making their choices over the course of the next year.
There's a bunch of others and with the Spread Offense finally becoming more prevalent here, you will find more players coming out of high school knowledgeable about zone schemes and passing than we've had in the past few years when half the kids in Iowa came from Wing-T or Double wing programs.
Is that you CyLyte?? There is nothing special about state lines. Get the best players you can regardless of where they call home.....................a few from Samoa would be nice!!

Yes, Reese Morgan has been invaluable to Iowa recruiting. Iowa high school coaches trust and respect the guy. Just wish CPR could get an Iowa high school coach of comparable status on ISU's staff, maybe as recruiting coordinator?
Maybe when Jerry Pezziti retires from Ankeny? He is an iowa h.s hof football coach.
