Look at it this way, it is probably a good way to pick up a lot of credits by betting on MSU to cover.

TAMU isnt exactly doing great this year, and probably will fire sherman, and they pounded KU.
Now add in the fact they are likely going to be without their starting qb.. the only reason im concerned about this one at all is because we beat texas, and we risk coming out flat after that.

I don't think there is any chance we come out with a Texas-hangover...if anything, we may be too pumped it and come out trying to do too much. These guys and coaches don't take wins for granted. And they are coming back to Homecoming and a stadium full of fans ready to cheer their guts out.

Take the ball to start the game, run it down their throats, and get an early lead.

Re: ISU a 14-point favorite over Kansas
I'm hoping for a big first half and some rest for some our starters in the Second Half, but I will be happy as long as we win.

Re: ISU a 14-point favorite over Kansas
At some point in time KU players are going to give up, hopefully this week. Maybe they already have. As ISU fans we know what it is like to loose several games badly in a row and then not show up for the rest of the season. After all of your goals are clearly out the window, it has to be hard to get very fired up for a game.
The secret is to get off to a great start and get the 'here we go again' thing started. No matter how you slice it KU is not OU or Utah on offense, so that helps a lot.
I think the 14 is a little low based on how everyone else that is around ISUs ability has hammered KU. Then again, it is not like ISU to blow anyone out, just to do it.

Re: ISU a 14-point favorite over Kansas
I fully expect this team to cut down on the 3 and outs and put up a W here. That's a big spread, but its likely because of the bad beats KU has taken and the big win over Texas. I'm looking for ISU to cover that, and win...

Re: ISU a 14-point favorite over Kansas
Iowa State is first in the Big 12 in turnover margin at +9. Kansas is last in the conference at -9. ISU should be +3 on Saturday.
Kansas is also giving up 207 rushing yards per game. ISU needs to ride Arob, Woody, and SJ to a victory.

Not to encourage the hijacking here, but i think Iowa is flat out better than MSU, and if its at Iowa, I would think that they win by more than a touchdown. I seldom like to defend Iowa, but MSU seems way over-rated They are living a charmed life, I don't think they can keep counting on all the aggressive play calling to countinue bounce their way.
As for our spread, I think its a good spread, but it makes me nervous. It really doesn't mean much. I think the Standard deviation for both teams right now is so high, that It wouldn't suprise me if the good guys lose the game and it wouldn't suprise me if the good guys win it by 35. Both teams are just that dependant on momentum. More so than most years. So by my calculations 14 is a good middle ground between my two ends of the spectrum.
That being said I predict 38-16 good guys.

I hope MSU wins against Iowa. I really really do.

If this game was in Lawrence I'd be a little more nervous. I trust CPR to have our guys ready and to kick some ***

Re: ISU a 14-point favorite over Kansas
I really want our guys to go out and beat the tar out of KU. Its unfathomable that we have a 5 game losing streak to those guys. They ruined a great season for us in 2005 and embarrassed us at home in 2006. We had them dead to rights in 2008 but then the Chiz factor kicked in. Our guys should be able to drill them, and I hope they smell the blood in the water.

Re: ISU a 14-point favorite over Kansas
14 sounds about right. I bet it will drop closer to 10 after some betting comes in, although that depends on if a ton of people wager based on the Texas win and KU's futility — then it could actually climb, which'd be strange.
If I bet on this, I'd take the points — I have a feeling it could be a 7-point ISU win, even though it should be at least 17 if not more.
Something to keep in mind (as far as spreads) — I think the ISU-Texas line opened at 26 or thereabouts.

I'd like to lay it on them, too (something like 31-7 sounds reasonable) although I'm fine with a closer game if we could spread the success over the 3 games following that.
Not that it actually works that way.
I want a routine win (something similar to NIU game) and then, let's see what happens vs. Nebraska.
