Re: What media Outlet sent a photog in a hawk shirt to the Pep Rally?
I don't think there is any rule that a media member must be unbiased.
Very likely he was coming home from eiu coverage and got sent to Ames.
With that said it would have been well within isu's right to escort him off premises an deny 13 the story coverage.

It's basic journalism 101. When you're working you're not a fan...its called being a professional. I get that he's probably some schmuck Hawk fan that has a closet of only Iowa stuff but find any kind of neutral shirt or polo to throw on

I admit, I was a bit annoyed when I first heard about it but I think it is logical the guy never planned on being in Ames' that day. Nope, because a channel 13 camera man with a hawks t-shirt on came in to film at The Ridgemont as the game was coming to a close. I'm willing to bet it was the same guy.

That's a lousy comparison to make CS78: Do you honestly think that Steve Deace would be standing on the sideline during a crushing Cyclone loss? Even when we're winning, dude leaves the game early to beat traffic on his way home (that's when he bothers to attend the game at all).

Did he say anything or just smile, completely embarrassed, and zip up his coat?

And before we start up with the tar & feathers for the WHO cameraman, I've got to tell you what both Andy & Keith told my wife in their replies to her email last night.
They said that the cameraman in question had been in Des Moines covering the closing of Blues on Grand (a live blues bar on the West side of downtown), and that he ran up to cover the rally in Ames on short notice. So there's no grand conspiracy of WHO cameramen trying to "keep ISU down" - just an Iowa fan who didn't think about the ramifications of the shirt he was wearing when he drove up to Ames.

If I put myself in his shoes, and I had an ISU shirt on going to an Iowa pep rally, I would have either
A: turned my shirt inside out.
B: zipped up my jacket so that my shirt was not visible.
It's sad that it took CPR to call him out before he zipped up his coat. You would think that its common sense to do such things at a rivals pep rally.

not sure what is worse...the distorted view that fanbases are different...or that you were rooting for the team with the biggest Hawk idiot ever in charge.

Hey, I say if he wants to leave the darkside and join up with the good guys power to him. I'm guesing there are lots of Hawk fans who could become servicable ISU supporters with proper training (and disinfecting).
The only reason most are Hawk fans is cuz they win. ISU athletics will not grow much if it relies soley on ISU grads.

Re: What media Outlet sent a photog in a hawk shirt to the Pep Rally?
I'd boycott Channel 13 but that would mean not watching the best local sports broadcasters/entertainers in several generations.
As far as remaining neutral ... do you think the Husker fans think TV-13 is neutral? e.g., Cooter Ray Cornhowler
I'll gladly endure a videographer/photographer with a hawk shirt on if I can continue to see Cooter Ray. Classic. In fact I think ISU should pay for the rights to use Cooter Ray on November 6.
Andy Garmin = Hawk Fan (and grad, I think) ... doesn't try to hide it.

Sometimes your attire is inappropriate for the situation. I learned this back in grade school when teacher made me go turn my t-shirt inside out for the rest of the day. The only logo the guy should have been sporting was WHO.

Journalism 101 guys...no, there's no law saying you can't do it, but a professional journalist should strive to be unbiased as much as possible. I remember having a discussion about this in a journalism class in HIGH SCHOOL. Not only is it disrespectful, but you may also cost your particular paper/station a chance to cover a major event by being refused access, depending on the situation. And yes, although cameramen aren't in front of a camera, they still are the media and are delivering the news, in a way.
Back to the question, if he was wearing an Iowa shirt, my first two guesses would be that he was from the Iowa State Daily or the Ames Trib. No, seriously.
