Every game seems like the other team has a player with a career day, and remember ....we are.............Iowa State. There is no given.
Gotta trust PR will have them jacked up for the Jack!

If we had won that game or maybe if Brad Smith stayed in the game we would have won. If we had won that game we would have been playing in the Big XII Championship Game that year. Dan McCarney would still be here today. Who knows?!
I was at that game. That sucked.

That's exactly right. KU is trying to lull us into a false sense of security. They still see us as a possible win for them. Look what we did to Nebraska last year with our reserve QB and reserve running back playing the whole game and half of the rest of the team puking their guts out. The same thing that we did to Nebraska, KU can do to us. Keep our foot on the gas and don't look back!
Re: KU down to 3rd string QB? Beshears out
gotta play hard, but not every juco 3rd string quarterback on a terrible team is comparable to chase daniels backing up a veteran brad smith type qb.
Also, that game was difficult because they prepared all week for smith and a running attack, and couldn't adjust when chase came in slinging the ball. I don't know if this kid can run or not, but I bet wally does.

He threw for 5,000 yards and 65 TD's in juco.
This will either be great news because he is absolutely terrible or the kid becomes the next Chase Daniel.
Oh crap! That does not sound good at all. This is de ja vu all over again. How many times since 1966 have I seen this same situation bite us in the rear!!!

I wonder what PR would tell you if you told him watch out because "we are Iowa State". Especially coming off a game like last week.

He's a passer.

Obviously that was against JuCo defenses, but it looks like Snow College is traditionally a highly ranked team, for what it's worth.
However, the fact that they ran the wildcat for a series before bringing him in makes me think they don't have a huge amount of faith in him. On the other hand, his big numbers from last year make me worry about him having a breakout game against us if we remember that we're Iowa State.
Re: KU down to 3rd string QB? Beshears out
We need to beat them like a rug on a clothes line. A nice dose of 40-50 points would be nice.
Re: KU down to 3rd string QB? Beshears out
I remember that 2005 season very well. Daniel may not have technically been "splitting time" with Brad Smith, but Pinkel had him in during the first offensive series of the second quarter in every game to get him some experience. I remember thinking it was a pretty good plan.
Anyway, I'm pretty sure that game started out 14-0 Missouri due to a couple of turnovers by ISU. After that, we scored 24 straight points and the defense had a perfect game plan against Smith. In fact, the only time Mizzou was really effective moving the ball was that first series in the second half when they had Daniel in.
Then Smith got hurt, Daniel came in and moved the ball very well, and Mizzou came back to tie it and send it in to overtime. I remember being concerned when Daniel came in because his series in the second quarter was really the only time they had moved the ball well up to that point. Plus our staff was terrible at making in-game adjustments.
That loss cost Dan McCarney his job and saved Pinkel's. An ISU victory in that game would have given ISU a Big 12 North title, and Missouri would have had a losing season for the fourth time in Pinkel's first five years. We would have had the North won before we even set foot in Lawrence. With that monkey off our back, we probably would have won that game too and gotten Mangino fired.

Crazy how fine the line is.

Don't forget the two Mizzou fumbles in the 4th quarter that the officials had disallowed as "forward progress had been stopped." Replays clearly showed that the ballcarriers were fighting for more yardage and succeeding, then coughing up the ball with clear recoveries by ISU. One of the recoveries would have gone back for a TD, too, if not for the whistle. One forward progress call was made by a side judge all the way on the opposite side of the field.
That game still burns me.

Yep, forgot to mention it. Let's why Pinkel's whining about the holding call the next year ****** me off so much. That 2006 game had no real effect on Missouri's season. The 2005 screw job on us, however, was the reason Pinkel still had his job in the first place, and it was also the reason that the 2006 game was Mac's last. Just a classless move by Pinkel.
Re: KU down to 3rd string QB? Beshears out
I expect ISU to win.
However, if KU shows up (like they did against GT) it will be a battle. Our offense is not good enough and defense too tired to blow someone out. Plus we are not one to out physical or talent an opponent anyway.

Everybody remembers the Missouri game. It sucked. But it was 5 years ago. We've had three different coaching staffs in that time. No matter how much you remember that game, our chances will ALWAYS improve when a starter goes out. We lost that game because DMac and staff were some of the worst in the country at making in-game adjustments.
What? The opposing teams first, second and third string secondary players ALL slipped and broke their legs at halftime and they have to start linebackers and their kicker in the secondary? Well, we're going to continue to run it up the gut three times in a row, that should really wear them out!
I trust this staff's ability to make adjustments and think we'll be prepared just fine for whatever quarterback is thrown out there for Kansas.

Like others, I hope for and even expect a big win by Iowa State, but just saying.
