The same great defense that got lit up for 41 points by Oklahoma State? I am not arguing that Nebraska is not a phenomenal team, or that they don't have a good defense, but it's been shown that they can be vulnerable.

The offense needs to put up points Saturday, period. The defense will continue to employ its "no big plays" strategy and hope that along the way the offense commits a big penalty/we force a turnover. Expect most of Nebraska's runs to go for 6 or 7 yards a pop. Expect them to not see very many 3rd downs. We just have to hope we get a little lucky.

But just a little... we can do the rest.

This will have to be a defensive game period....ISU's D is going to have to play Tough and get stops and turnovers, the way we win is by having a short field and capitalizing on it. Nebby's D is too strong to really put long drives on them. Defense and special teams will be the Key in this game to win

Throw the short ones to Franklin, mix those in with some runs with Arnaud, Robinson, and Woody... and every once in a while, take a shot down the field. We're gonna have to get just a little lucky if we want a shot in this one.

I do think that if Iowa State wants to win this game, we will need to score at least 35 points.
I agree completely. We need a creative attack to be successful at keep away. Arnaud will have to run the ball well, too, and a good dose of Shontrelle would be good. I'd like to see some screens to A-Rob and Shontrelle. Doesn't seem like that's been a big part of our offense, and there's some potential to get the ball to those guys in space.

This. Win the turnover battle, I don't think it'll take 8 again but being +2 or more could do it. Their defense isn't as good and obvs so Suh back there. Plus we got Arnaud and A-Rob for this game unlike last year along with Woody and Rabbit. Our 3-headed monster running game could potentially outplay Helu. Defense must stop run better and get martinez passing. Don't let NU beat you running the ball and force turnovers!

I admit on defense it will be a bit more challenging to stop NU. I do think you have to be aggressive. I think any kind of bend don't break or lay back with a "spy" scheme will end up in NU just lighting up the scoreboard. We have to have penetration because Helu and Martinez are a lot harder to tackle beyond the line of scrimmage. they both run away from people.
And slipping the refs a benjamin wouldnt hurt our chances either

But how can we chew up the clock with our hurry-up offense?

helu, burkhead were there last year too.

    so was suh.

    didn't help.

    even lincoln didn't help.

nebbie is beatable. sdsu hung with them in lincoln. sdsu had a couple of tds called back.

find a way to win. who knows? maybe the coaches can scheme as well as sdsu.

How to beat Nebraska? The same way you guys beat them last year, or Texas this year. Force turnovers. Preferably score off of said turnovers.

    Re: How to Beat Nebraska

To me the key will be making plays when the Husker D gives them to us. Okie st did just that, but they have playmakers at WR that helped expose the Man to Man coverage of the Huskers. Franklin is going to be huge (as always). Hopefully Herman and Co can get him in favorable match-ups against smaller DBs. JT's deep ball to Jake last year was in 1 on 1 coverage, hopefully we can take some shots like that again. Austen's feet will also be very important. With all the blitzing and DB in man coverage Gilbert was able to get some positive yards on the ground. AA needs to do the same. This defense is very good and well coached but its not in the same category as last year, the opportunities will be there.

On defense is another story. The last 2 weeks Okie st and Mizzou tried Texas's approach to stopping Martinez but they were unsuccessful due to not having the talent to shut down the supporting cast. This has backfired because Nebraska has been able to exploit knowing exactly how defenses are going to play them. Martinez has thrown well the last 2 weeks but he hasn't had to make one tough throw, everyone is wide open because defenses make it obvious they are out to stop his legs. He'll still struggle from time to time throwing the ball, we just need to keep him off balance and not try to use the Texas blueprint to stop him....we don't have the speed/talent up front to do that.
The only bigger turnoff than finding out a woman smokes, is finding out she's a Husker fan.

Nebraska is a fast team, and ISU has trouble playing with fast teams.
