Disagree with you about Gill's call to take the 3 before the half Chris.
KU has got a 3rd string QB in the game who has very little game experience playing on the road. You can take the 3 and a lead into the locker room in a game which you have been in control of from the first snap with the exception of 1 punt return.
Not exactly the same situation but look at the end of the Notre Dame vs Tulsa game yesterday. You have a back up QB in and you go for the TD instead of taking the FG to take the lead and the game? Backup QB throws a pick and everyone questions the call.
If Gill tells his 3rd stringer to go out there and take a couple shots at the end zone and he turns over the ball giving an anemic looking home team the lead into the locker rooms everyone is asking why you don't take the FG and the half time lead. The way our offense looked at the end of the first half 8 points might have been enough for KU to win the game.
I think you take one shot, just to let the team know you're still playing to win, experience or not. Make it a controlled one, but take a shot.
I hadn't paid attention to NIU, but seeing them at 7-2 makes me realize that I need to take back the disparaging ideas I had for our opening opponent, and recognize that we beat a pretty good team in week 1.
This team is just doing a fantastic job against this brutal schedule. Impressive all the way around.

Agree. It's easy for us with a QB who has started a lot of games to go for the TD, but they have a 3rd stringer who obvs wasn't ever comfortable out there or had much confidence in himself to make the big throw. You could make the Kansas has "nothing to lose" argument, but I think KU was smart to take the 3 and the lead at half against our D. It would have been totally discouraging for them to dominate the half against a better team and still be down by 1 at half if they didn't score.
I'd add Alex Alvarez for a game ball, stepping in for Big Ben and leading the o-line to the rushing attack. Sure hope Ben is back for Nebraska. Running the ball needs to be our identity these final three games. Weather will become a factor in November.

We'll have to agree to disagree. Yeah...he's third string but he is also on scholarship. You're 2-5 Kansas, on the road in a game where you are a three touchdown underdog.
What do you have to lose? Show your team that you're there to win and not keep it close.
