Win the North!!!
I think it is great that we will be in the first week of November and in control of our own destiny in the North. If we win the next 3 games we win the North!!! This is great as an ISU fan to be talking about this again.
Why aren't more of us setting our sites a bit higher than bowl eligibility? We control our own fate. Win 3 games, 2 of which are at home, and we win the North. Finally kill the 2004 and 2005 ghosts and go to the Big 12 title game with a chance at a BCS bowl. ISU with a chance at a BCS bowl!!! Get behind this team and start raising expectations!!!
Now you have to admit that we face some pretty tough teams in the next 3 weeks. But should we write some of these off as losses at this point. Of course not. We go out to win every game. We have the toughest 2 on our home field. Set your goals higher than just winning 1 of these. Get behind your team. We win 3 games and we win the North.
Of course goal number one is to become bowl eligible but we need to rally around this team winning the North. If we do that the bowl we have our sites set on might just as well be the Fiesta Bowl. ISU vs. Baylor in the title game is a winnable game for us. Crazy talk? Maybe but with 3 games to go Baylor and ISU both control their own fates. Both have very tough opponents left but no one would have put either in this situation even just a few weeks ago.

Re: Win the North!!!
if you look at the big picture, a 6-6 (4-4) season with a trip to the Dallas Football Classic on New Years Day would be a great season. Im sure excited for something like that to play out. A big 12 north championship would be simply incredible. Our division is the 2nd toughest division in college football after the SEC... um the division with Auburn, LSU, Alabama etc.

I suppose that I'd be satisfied with 6-6, but 7-5 or 804 would be so much better--that's exciting!
The OP has it right--suddenly a Nor--er, the final North title is in reach!
But let's take it one game at a time...not because we're playing, but because this is a big enough obstacle not to get our hopes up much higher! We got a new Marshall here in town, and his name's Paul Rhoads, and the times, they is a'changin'.

Re: Win the North!!!
I am as excited about this as anyone, but we have to keep our heads on straight and step back from the Kool-Aid for a second. We will be big underdogs in both home games against very good teams. A win against either of those would be considered a major upset, both teams are legit. At Colorado is always tricky, so I wouldn't call that a for sure win or anything of that sort.
I hope to finish out with 3 W's, but we have to keep our heads on straight and realize if that is the expectation, we are asking way too much of the team.

Lets start with beat Nebraska. Lots of door open with a win this weekend.

That kind of thinking would have lost the Texas game.

Re: Win the North!!!
Winning the north would be awesome, but my expectations are hoping for one more win. If that win comes against Nebraska next weekend, it'll be my personal most memorable season of ISU football.

I am just saying if we expect to win the North, we are expecting a lot out of this team. And if we have these expectations, then lose the next three games, this site and our fanbase will have a major meltdown.

Re: Win the North!!!
Talking about what is mathematically possible is acceptable. Expecting what is mathematically possible can be dangerous.
I'm excited Iowa State has the opportunity, but Nebraska and Mizzou are two big mountains to climb. And then we have to win a game in the mountains on top of that.

Re: Win the North!!!
Everyone is correct in one way or another.
Let's aim for a North title since it's attainable, and not just settle for a minimum bowl bid just because it would (probably) require two major upsets and a road win.
Also, we can't let act crushed if we end up "only" 6-6.
I'm willing to accept 6-6 with this season's schedule, but I do want to achieve something better. These are the types of seasons that can be the difference between consistent mediocrity and a higher standard of expectations.

.500 is better than the program's average.
