In any case, in my opinion, you let the QB race drag on until about a week and a half before the first game. Keep competition high for as long as possible. The reason I say to decide on one a week and a half before the game is to allow the starter to practice and prepare for the first game.

I digress...The point I was trying to make was that I don't think we've seen all he can do and people have been too quick to write him off. I feel he will be right in the mix when spring drills start. I have no doubt that Tiller will be right in the mix at the start (and end of spring drills). I just don't think that he's the eventual starter for a majority of 2011. Last year, I thought "well, he's a RSFR and doesn't know the offense all that well. Plus, he was playing some pretty athletic defenses in NU and ATM." Fast forward to 2010 against UNI...he looked exactly the same! The offense was the same sluggish pile of ineptitude that it was vs NU and ATM...against a 1AA defense! So, if he (obviously) didn't improve much in the last offseason, what makes people think that he will make leaps and bounds THIS offseason? I just don't buy it. I don't think that he's accurate enough to be the starter. I love the kid's attitude and that he's stuck it out as a backup for three years, but I just have a bad feeling like it's not going to end well at ISU for him. Hope I'm wrong because he's put in his time. He deserves his shot and will get it, but I just don't have any faith that he'll be able to do something with it.

If Tiller is our best quarterback, he should start. If he's not, he shouldn't. I think there's a 50% chance that he starts.

I think it would be funny if Tiller starts and then has a great season.

I think it would be funny, because people have judged him as a bad quarterback already.

If Tiller wins the job next year it's for one of 2 reasons: A) he's vastly improved and looks like a good QB or B) we're just that weak at the position.

Something to consider:
Tiller has trouble staying healthy as a backup. How much would he be injured as the starter?

Look what a year in the weight room did for Iowa's Vandenberg...I thought he was a skinny, rag-armed guy, until he came out as a freshman against OSU.
We got a new Marshall here in town, and his name's Paul Rhoads, and the times, they is a'changin'.
