Re: Mizzou game to Kickoff @ 6pm, televised on FSN.
I love these threads. Seriously, I do. I get it, every week some people are going to have conflicts, but we are so good at making excuses. We should really have a list of excuses people offer to explain the absence of thousands of people from a home football game.
Pheasant hunting, trick or treat, night games, morning games, afternoon games, games on TV, games on Thursday, too cold, too hot, harvest, rain, snow, opponent too good, opponent not good.....and now....All State Band...I love it. Just when I thought trick or treat was the funniest excuse and we couldn't get any more lame excuse than that, we trot out All State Band....seriously, what is next? I can't wait to find out.
If we ever move a game time for All State Band we need to pack up and move the MAC because we have lost already. Can you imagine Texas saying "Hey FSN, love that you want to pay us to show our game on national TV, but we have All-State Band in our basketball arena that night, so we have to say no." Comical.

This is why we will never be an elite program and will likely lose CPR in the next few years.

This, and All-State music, really. I was in band in high school and if the choice was between band and football I would choose football without thinking twice.

This happens almost everywhere. It may not be as much of an issue other places, because those who do have an issue at some others can still sell their tickets to someone who can go (demand is higher than supply), but at places where supply is > demand, you start to see that show up in the seats.

That is not us, yet. Hopefully that isn't a new's bulletin to anyone here.
BTW...the Iowa Energy's opening night is....yes, you guessed it, November 20th. The Nada's will be there to grab a few more of the casual fanbase.
Again...doesn't affect me, but we're losing the casual fans with an evening game in late November.

thats ok. Those are they type that dont make much noise anyway. The money from them not being there will be trumped by TV money.

They gave the band the option that we didn't have to show if we didn't want to, but I still came because it was my last game. Had to keep all my stuff from the dorms in the car because they closed those up for the break that morning. We played the game with less than half of the band, with space heaters out for trying to keep warm.
I had a spray bottle with Everclear to spray on my trombone slide to keep it from freezing in the cold. We marched on the field and played but didn't march the program because half the band was gone and you couldn't see the lines on the field. After the band was on, they brought out one of the John Deere carts with the brushes on it and did the lines and endzones for the second half. The blizzard died down some for the second half, and wasn't as bad, though very cold.
The Clones fought hard that day but lost by a TD. I had not been as proud of the team in a loss until last weekend's game, the FSU game that Seneca almost brought the team back in notwithstanding. That's awesome! I remember that game well, glad I was in the press box. Looking up in the media guide, it says the attend was 36, 256. It was great watching fans slide down the hillsides.

If we ever move a game time for All State Band we need to pack up and move the MAC because we have lost already. Can you imagine Texas saying "Hey FSN, love that you want to pay us to show our game on national TV, but we have All-State Band in our basketball arena that night, so we have to say no." Comical. I'm an extremely devoted ISU fan, but there are many more important things than ISU football games, especially when the times are only decided a couple of weeks in advance. I've got a little sister who is in All-State this year, and so I'll be with the other 7,000+ at Hilton that night instead of the game. Wish I could be at both, but unlike the ISU-Mizzou game, All-State has been scheduled for the Saturday night before Thanksgiving at 7:30pm for DECADES. DECADES. Just because it's nerdy "music" doesn't mean it has to lie down for accommodating our game being on TV. Isn't putting the game on TV a disincentive for getting fans to the event anyway?
Fans like this really **** me off. I buy season tickets when I can, and I don't go to games when I have other important events going on. People have lives other than ISU athletics, and that should be OK. It's normal! What we really need is more winning, which will attract more casual fans, who will fill the seat that I'm not taking up at the Mizzou game because I'm at the All-State concert. All-State's important, those kids work hard. It's not something you shrug off just for a freaking football game, no matter how much you love CPR and the Cyclones. I've been a fan since I was 4 freaking years old, so don't lecture people like me about things like this. Weddings, family outings, All-State...these are important to some people, and I hope you can understand this.
My first ISU basketball game - Fred Hoiberg was on the court.
My first ISU football game - Paul Rhoads was on the sidelines.
But they hadn't yet reached their full potential.
SO PROUD that things have come full circle. #cyclONEnation
