Rhoads called fake FG on 57-yard attempt
Interesting stuff from Coach Rhoads today. He said that the fake field goal was called on Mahoney's 57-yard make at the end of the first half. Remember ISU taking a timeout? Rhoads saw that Nebraska was in a fake set. The TO was called to get ISU out of the fake and back into a regular FG. Here's the actual quote.
“The fake field goal was actually called on that kick that we made at the end of the half. But they were in a safe alignment. That is why I called a timeout, to get us out of it.”

Re: Rhoads called fake FG on 57-yard attempt
I do remember seeing a husker back in the endzone, looked more like they were going to attempt to return a short field goal even. Obviously not going for the block, which is why I assume Rhoads called the TO.

Re: Rhoads called fake FG on 57-yard attempt
That was one the one Mahoney made though. I wonder if it would've been the pass or the option between the Kuehl and Kirby that we saw earlier in the season? I would've preferred that option in the overtime instead of the pass.
Hilton Coliseum was specifically built to hold in sound with a solid concrete structure, steel doors, and a crowd that sits just a few feet from the court. With a fan base that frequently ranks among the nations largest crowds, players from opposing teams, as well as Iowa State, have said that the floor has shaken due to the loudness of the crowd -

He also said on the coaches show last night that if we would have made it 24-23 late in the 4th quarter that he would have called it then too. Instead we tied it up with 10+ min left.
“One day we’ll be in here celebrating a Big 12 championship,” Rhoads said. “That I can promise you.” -
Re: Rhoads called fake FG on 57-yard attempt
Rhoads sticks to his guns, period. Does not let the fans change his opinion. He creates a plan and executes it - consistently.
Love it...and I would expect nothing less.

I love this too, and it makes the games so much fun to watch! Never know for sure what is going to happen, and he is aggressive and going for the win. So glad we have a coach like this!

Re: Rhoads called fake FG on 57-yard attempt
Yeah, a fake before half time would have been a good call. I wasn't so concerned with that part of the presser about the kicking game.
Rhoads mentioned he would have called a kick from the 45 (with the wind, of course) if the opportunity arose after Mahoney made the 57 yarder. Given Mahoney's recent record, my head would have exploded if that would have happened.

Re: Rhoads called fake FG on 57-yard attempt
I love how you can never be so sure about what is going to happen, whether he's faking a FG, PAT, Punt, or onside kick, CPR always keeps them guessing! And the best thing is it always seems to happen when everybody leasts expects it!

Re: Rhoads called fake FG on 57-yard attempt
I do wonder, why would Rhoads admit this? I wonder what he has to gain by giving this info. Or admitting the Texas Tech fake punt was in fact a called fake.
Seems keeping that stuff within the team would be ideal.
I don't think it's bad, this one just made me wonder why he'd even mention it.

Sounds like you want someone like Chizik who never said anything of substance in an interview (sorry, that was a cheap shot).
I love Rhoads and the way he talks freely about his players, plays, and the capacity of the team. The more he talks, the more other teams are going to have to worry about what we will do, and the more options we have on every play.

I raised a discussion point, lets not bring up a man that won a peasantry 5 games while he was here when it has nothing to do with him.

Saying that you preferred Chizik was below the belt. I apologize. I just hated the way he would never say anything of substance in an interview.
