    Top 5 Heart-Breakers

What are your top 5 heartbreakers? I've never been more depressed after a loss than after what happened Saturday. Its funny how people say this was a once in a decade loss. Those people must not be Cyclone fans because all of mine come in the previous decade. Also three of the five came in OT. I think we can all say that OT has not been our friend.

    1.) Nebraska 30-31 OT (2010)
    2.) @Kansas 21-24 OT (2005)
    3.) Florida State 31-38 (2002)
    4.) Missouri 14-17 OT (2004)
    5.) Alabama 13-14 (2001)

You got em right but in the wrong order.

KU and MU should be 1 and 2 - so much was on the line

Alex Giffords wide right from 23 yards against Oklahoma in 1981. Game ends in 7-7 tie.

Last year's game against KSU at Arrowhead.

The OT game at Nebraska in 2005ish (where we dropped the INT)

This thread could get long ....

nothing should be below the Missouri game in 2004 or the Kansas game the year after. I still have nightmares about the MU game. Shoulda ran the dive with Hicks!!!

Completely agree. Here's how I'd order them and why.

    1.) @Kansas 21-24 OT (2005) - B12 championship game birth, blew a huge lead, ref's
2.) Missouri 14-17 OT (2004) - B12 championship game birth, laid an egg
    3.) Florida State 31-38 (2002) - Seneca was in!
    4.) Alabama 13-14 (2001) - Wide right!
5.) Nebraska 30-31 OT (2010) - Chance for B12 championship birth, last chance to beat nebby in a while, etc.

WOW! A missed field goal from 23 yards out. That one would hurt!! Thank god I wasn't alive then.

I couldn't disagree more. I was bummed after the loss Saturday, but I was nowhere near being depressed. The game was awesome, the team came back from being down by 14 and they gave everything they had and came up a few yards short.
I think this loss shows more about our team than some of the wins this season. They played much better than in the win vs. UNI and showed how the offense can get the job done vs. a great defense.
I liken this game more to the loss vs. FSU in KC. We were so far down against a really good team that it showed a ton of grit to get back in it. The officiating jobbed us, but they earned everything they did get, just like Saturday. I wasn't depressed after the FSU game either. A little p*ssed, but not depressed.

The KU and MU losses were gut wrenching though, because we had no business losing those games and "found a way to lose". It also hurt because we lost the North twice in a row.

On Saturday we lost the game, but still gained a lot and I think the team is better because of it. The only thing better would have been to put a little more zip on the pass and be alone atop the Big12 North right now.

By the way, can we not go all Debbie Downer this week? We still have a lot to play for and I am sick of the message board getting all depressed after every loss.

    Re: Top 5 Heart-Breakers

For me the MBB loss to UCLA, and Michigan State were worse. The Florida State loss was just behind last week. The KU and Missouri game should be, but I don't know, those others just hurt.

The loss to KU in 2005 by far the worst...in fact its not even close. I feel asleep after that game, and didn't wake back up until the next day. Slept almost 18 hours I was so depressed.

    Re: Top 5 Heart-Breakers

This one because right now I see the last two teams as teams we should beat. This gives us a chance to get to 8-4 and have a shot at the B12 Championship. It has become apparent to me that the Utah and OK games were exceptions, not rules. It wasn't the game itself, it was what could be had we won.
    I'm on Twitter too: Tre4ISU

    Or so I have read.

    5. Alabama 2001

I was in school for the KU and MU ones, it was like a death nail after both of those loses.

I vote for Mizzou 2004 over KU 2005 because of the weather. At home, 20 degrees, blizzard, Sat. after Thanksgiving, NOTHING about that game has any redeeming qualities. At least the KU game was on the road.

    Re: Top 5 Heart-Breakers

The 1972 game against the #1 Cornhuskers was a heartbreaker because Tom Goedjen missed the ONLY extra point of his career with 23 seconds left. So ISU ended up with a 23-23 tie instead of a win. Definite heartbreaker.
