Re: Great read on NCAA/Newton
I hope I am not opening a can of worms by posting this. I heard a story a few years ago regarding LE's recruitment of a guy who is now in the NBA. ISU was in a recruiting battle with a handful of other schools and it was looking pretty good for the Cyclones. One day a rep for a certain unnamed shoe company approached LE and said he could "deliver" this certain recruit if ISU switched shoe suppliers. According to my source, LE told him,"Go to hell. I've never made a deal for a recruit and I never will."
Coincidentally, the school this person ended up attending was wearing new shoes the next year. So I think there was some merit to the story.
It's a shady, shady business.

It's a shady, shady business. True or not, this stuff happens all the time on varying scales everywhere. When the NCAA made college sports the big business that it is today, what did they expect?

From TV networks to NCAA compensation packages to University employees, everyone makes money off of college football.

Yeah, I have to think the NCAA will lose its tax-exempt status sometime in the future the way things are going. Getting harder and harder to argue its not a business when you have Universities trying to join conferences across the country based on how much money they can make from TV deals as the top priority.

Re: Great read on NCAA/Newton
It makes me wonder about ISU. Do we really have boosters out there handing out money to recruits? It just seems beyond belief when you consider how poor this program is.

Probably not... which is almost certainly a factor in why our recruiting rankings are in the bottom half of the conference.

Dan Beebe said Chizik told him he couldn't get 5 star recruits to Ames even if he paid them.
