Does Hawkins getting fired hurt or help ISU?
It doesn't appear this is going to be a win one for the Gipper game, since a lot of the CU players were not happy with Hawkins, but you might get a spirited effort from guys that think that Hawkins was holding the team back. You might also get a team that comes out angry and has several personal fouls and plays unfocused.
The other thing I think about is what do you do as an Asst. Coach? Are you working really hard to prove that you are not the reason the Buffs stink or are you busy cleaning up your resume and getting your name out there?
Re: Does Hawkins getting fired hurt or help ISU?
We should win and do so convincingly - no excuses.
Our motivation should be higher than theirs, as a win puts us into a bowl. They have to win three straight conference games to do so - and they currently have won zero.
A loss is inexcusable and should reflect poorly on the staff regarding getting players prepared for a game. I have not seen this as an issue so I have no doubt our guys will be ready and we win the game.
If the ISU football program wants to become one and take the next step - this is a game they simply do not lose. Programs on the rise win this game in a business-as-usual mantra and move on - period.

Who?
Re: Does Hawkins getting fired hurt or help ISU?
Id be more worried about a still prevalent NU loss hangover, and the release of COD Black Ops. This is a trap game.
Re: Does Hawkins getting fired hurt or help ISU?
We better play better than the utah game or else.
Re: Does Hawkins getting fired hurt or help ISU?
This just really goes to show the mentality of our fanbase. We have been kicked in the nuts so many times we look for every possible way something could possibly screw us over.

When did we become Iowa fans? This is a football game between two BigXII teams and it is at their place. In no way is a loss "inexcusable". Colorado has won 6 out of the last 7 times we have played them in Boulder and 11 out of the last 15 overall. Also, ISU is 4-21 in our last 25 road games.
Yes CU fired its lame duck awful football coach. Not sure if this is a + or - for them to be honest. Also, we are coming off an emotional loss. There are a ton of warning signs here - yet I read people all over this board caulking this up as a win.
I'll be rooting hard for ISU, my family lives in CO and my little brother is a student at CU. I just think it is pre-mature to start saying things like a loss at CU is "inexcusable".
Re: Does Hawkins getting fired hurt or help ISU?
I agree this is a trap game of sorts, but we are sitting at 5-5, we have not achieved bowl eligiblity yet there is no reason we don't get up for this one from start to finish.....
Re: Does Hawkins getting fired hurt or help ISU?
I think we've turned the corner. Starting with the Texas game, the beating KU, then the 2 point conversion. Our guys will win this. Our coaches will win this.
Nebraska's turning point under Osborne a failed 2 point conversion. Lets put a stake in the ground and win out this season and bowl game, then win out next year!

To hell with that crap. This has nothing about being an Iowa fan or being any type of fan other than one that expects us to go into a stadium that will be very empty and defeat a team that has just 3 total wins on the season, none of them coming in conference play. A team that could not even defeat KU, even with a gigantic lead.
No, losing this game would be huge egg on the face of what this team has accomplished in 1.75 seasons of football. You don't beat Texas on the road, Tech at home and take Nebraska to the wire (plus having a win @ Nebraska the year before) and then lose to a lowly team like CU.
No, absolutely not.
We decided Monday to make the trip to Boulder, had no plans of doing such until then. I believe in this group that much that I think this is a game that we should and will win. And should we lose, I would have my doubts about our direction...making other wins (and good performances) recently look a bit more fluky rather than good, consistent efforts.

We are actually 4-5 in our last 9 TRUE road games since CPR took over-not counting the 2 at arrowhead or the bowl game. so we had lost 16 in a row-all with 2 other coaching staffs that are no longer here.

Amazingly enough, this team should be 7-3 currently, with a chance to go 8-3 this weekend, potentially finish 9-3 and play for a Big 12 title. Not a single rational person outside Ames, IA would have thought that was even possible - but it ended up being very possible.
When you are that close to such an accomplishment, you don't lose to a pathetic Colorado program. Not unless we're back in '04 and '05. Not unless you are sulking because of what could have been rather than looking forward to what could still be.
That coach is gone and the new one plays to win.

I'm sure you were just mocking his obvious spelling error, but for those who really don't know who "the Gipper" is:
