Re: Keeping CPR
Honestly, I don't see how anyone could be mad if Rhoads left. Sure, it would suck donkey balls if he went to another school BUT he has put this program in such a better place than when he got here that I wouldn't have an bad feelings towards him if he left. Sometimes a man has to make a decision that he thinks is best for himself.

Re: Keeping CPR
Getting CPR the vastly needed improvements in football facilities will play a huge part too.

Someone needs to get ol' Earle Bruce in his ear. Earle said that leaving ISU is the biggest mistake he ever made. This is exactly how i feel.

Personally, I'm very worried about losing CPR. I think our fanbase has built him up to be one of us down to the core, and that he loves being a Cyclone more than anything. It would DEVASTATE this fanbase to lose him. All of this, of course, is why I could see it happening. We need to give Rhoads everything he wants to stay here. I wish some of that money going into softball would be redirected @ Rhoads. If he keeps this up, and we keep him here, we'll be able to do a lot more for non-revenue sports down the road.

My only issue is that if he were to leave after his contract is done I don't see how anyone being objective could look at him as a "backstabber". To do so is ********(not directed at you). The other issue being is that there is still a long way to go with improving the program. It is trending in the right direction and at the moment everything looks like it is improving - but nothing is for sure. I don't take anything for granted when it comes to ISU football.

I don't think we have anything to worry about until CPR has actually had some of HIS recruits make it through the system

Re: Keeping CPR
Two fold about Penn State football:
Who wouldn't want to have that head coaching job if they were offered it? The facilities are outstanding. The fan base is nation wide and fanatical. They play in the Big 10 and get a lot of $$ every year from both the conference but also donors and merchandising. It is a storied team with a lot of history.
Down side though is that who ever becomes the next head coach will ALWAYS be compared to JoPa. That is a lot of pressure to be under right away and b/c of that all it would take is 1-2 down years and the person would be fired.
So, I would hope the CPR would stay at ISU to help build the program but also stay b/c he has job security and is near home. So, lets hope!

Re: Keeping CPR
It seems a little weird to me that Penn State hasn't named some in house successor to JoePa when he does retire.

Finding someone who wants to be here and has the skills to keep it a better place is once in a generation things. Weve seen coaches on BB and FB side who have "said" they want to be here and those who have not helped but really "wanted" to be here. Right now we have a man that IS BOTH. This is why I am happy and stress and want all measures to keep him taken.

Re: Keeping CPR
PSU is a great job. One of the best, and following up JoePa will be a huge responsibility. I don't know a lot about the program and it's history, but I am sure internally have many qualified candidates that understand the program, are capable, and would succeed.
Doubt they look outside JoePa's Coaching tree to fill the position.
"For the great enemy of truth is very often not the lie -- deliberate, contrived, and dishonest -- but the myth -- persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic. Too often we hold fast to the clichés of our forebears. We subject all facts to a prefabricated set of interpretations. We enjoy the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought."

and then, when ISU is in a BCS bowl, is when the worrying should start. Originally Posted by IowaStateClones I don't think we have anything to worry about until CPR has actually had some of HIS recruits make it through the system I was a victim of a series of accidents, as are we all. -
Re: Keeping CPR
I sure wouldn't stress about it. Just be a good fan, show up on game day, and donate when you're able.

He'd only be a "backstabber" if he left before his contract his was up. Even if it was a great deal that he couldn't turn down, he has stated publicly that he won't leave early.
Also, someone needs to point out Ferentz's situation. Ferentz didn't make the money he's currently making overnight. Also, Ferentz has a fan base that will give him a long rope. I guarantee the adoration of the Iowa fan base, and the relatively low expectations are a big part of why Ferentz stays. Rhoads isn't going to find many fanbases as easy to satisfy as the one right here @ ISU. He can make more $ than he'd ever spend by staying right here, and his job security is unrivaled.
I'd look at his situation here as similar to what Rich Rod had @ WVU. I would bet that if Rich Rod had it to do all over again, he'd have stayed put at West Virginia, concentrated on beating Pitt and playing for the National Title, and basically own the Big East for eternity, while basically being a beloved folk hero. Now he's hated by 2 fanbases.

Paterno is going to coach that team until he dies...literally. I truly believe he will die on the sideline, or during an off-season before he hangs it up. I think that good old coock has a couple more years left in the tank.
Once that happens, as a couple have said, the next person to take that job has enormous shoes to fill. Almost to the point you hire a sacrificial lamb to sit there for a year or two before going out and getting who they really want. Call it a grieving period.
In short, I'm not worried for at least another 5 years or so about CPR going to Penn State.
