Keeping CPR

OK, now Im sorry for beating this horse again but...

Had a talk w/ former football player/alumni/donor who usually been spot on (i think he knows someone?) and there are rumbling that CPR could be a candidate for Penn St job and that he is now in the national spotlight?

Regardless of who wants him (we want him the MOST!!), hypothetically what will it take to retain CPR since he is having success and starting to build a name!

Will 2-3 million keep him? Will we be able to donate/ make up the difference with the new TV deal?

Or is he truly HOME and will stay for a couple of mill and the satisfaction of building his team to be a powerhouse?

I know college football is a fickle thing but man Im stress'in over this just as things are going good.:eek:

How about a 6-8 yr. extension?

If and when it comes to an issue of money and how successful CPR actually becomes, you have to believe that JP is going to do everything he can to keep Rhoads. I believe the CPR wants to stay here, I really think he loves being here, and it would kill him to leave this school, these fans, and his players.

No way. I really think CPR is here for the long run. He'd be a backstabber if he left.

I believe PR has more character than to ditch ISU after year two, regardless of who is calling and the price tag. I want to make money as much as the next guy, but sometimes, you find a place to work that has more value than just the dollars you bring in.

how many years are left in his contract? there has been statements about he will work out his contract.

How much money does one really need? I hope he wants to stay for more than just money. Don't get me wrong I agree his pay should go up when goals are met but our budget is not the most sexy thing to look at either.

Sorry but I don't believe CPR would be a serious candidate at Penn State. And if he was and somehow got the offer...he would be crazy not to accept it! Don't mean to rain on the parade guys...but it is the truth!

I think Rhoads is satisfied with trying to build up the ISU football program. I also believe that Penn State might have a hard time in finding someone to replace Paterno. How do you replace a legend that is the face of the program for forty years? Besides Rhoads has hardly any pressure here at Iowa State. If he was to leave, people at the new program would be thinking he should be able to do more with better resources and win sooner rather than later.

I love what your saying and agree with most of it except the extension bit.. extension are meant as payouts to be bought off by more money. Another angle is (and not to insult CPR or Gil Turner) but some success and then switch schools and fall flat.

I also get the feeling he wants to stay but money is money and with all the coach talk that everyone speaks I dont know what is true anymore.

What does anyone think in figures or what could IA State support?

Ive also taken this route in life.

I don't think CPR would leave this soon for a couple reasons:
1. His parents are here. Most people know that is mother is sick and he has a very tight bond with his Dad.
2. He knows that if he left, it would completely devastate the program and school. I don't know him, but he does not seem like that type of guy.

Now, we can't expect to hold on to him forever because of that and we all need to do whatever we can (financially) to make sure he stays around. I think he would take less to stay here, but he would be foolish to not flirt around when his stock is high.

If you really want to keep a coach, you pay him as much as you can and then you support him in any way possible. After that, it's up to his own free will. JP will not let him go for lack of trying.

:rolleyes: When CPR says he's leaving, I'll worry about it. Until then, CPR, like me, is a Cyclone.

If CPR left ISU....

I really would have to seriously reconsider my faith in humanity... I mean that would be just... WOW.... no words would be able to describe my anger. I would more than likely be the guy leading the riots on welch hours after the news
