Re: Cam Newton could be ruled ineligilble tomorrow
Auburn probably did not do anything wrong....
But like in the Movie "Blue Chips", if true.....? do not kid yourself somebody knew something...? If the kid or his Dad got paid, somebody in the Football program knows. Now try and prove it, that is a whole other story....

That is the NCAA way.....
They need to ban for life the people that let this happen, but that never seems to happen....Sad Who needs to do some banning is the NFL. Give Reggie Bush a lifetime ban from the NFL and do the same for anyone else caught with recruiting violations and I guarantee that people will give it a second thought before getting involved in things like this. Sure the NFL loses a couple star players, but there will always be more people waiting in line to fill those spots.

I still hate that the NCAA penalizes the school usually after the fact when all the wrong doers are gone and got what they wanted....

The NFL doesn't care and it shouldn't. What happens in the NCAA has no bearing for them. They are a bottomline business.

Poor kid...the people around him have let him down. His own dad has used his kid for his own well being...sad
BTW I hate Eugene Chizik.

This would ensure that the athletes who want to be in college are in college and those who do not want to be in college aren't. It could be like baseball now, with college teams still getting a lot of talent, but the minor leagues still offer work and a non-college route to the pros.

Re: Cam Newton could be ruled ineligilble tomorrow
If asked, why would Newton volunteeringly sit? If he is eventually found to be ineligible Auburn will vacate all of their wins anyway this season. Newton will have no benefit from sitting down. It's not like the NCAA will just overlook the previous 9 games and let Auburn compete for the NC (and keep it later).
Now, if the NCAA tells Auburn that they have hard evidence and they will eventually be making an official ruling then it may be in Auburn's best interest to tell Newton he's sitting. A little good graces now could really reduce that suspension later. Who nows, if Auburn scoffs at the NCAA now, they may be looking at a lack of institutional control from this. To me, if evidence is presented to Auburn that their player took money and they did nothing, that seems pretty close.

Re: Cam Newton could be ruled ineligilble tomorrow
The problem is that Cam Newton may be as white as snow. What if he had no idea what was going on? What is some booster just happened to make a substantial donation to Daddy Newton's church? Is Cam, Chezik, or even Auburn itself responsible? Right now there are lots of questions and no definitive answers.

Please tell me you are not serious. No idea what was going on? If they were asking for money, they didn't just ask one school.

Right now there are lots of questions and no definitive answers. Perhaps he is as white as snow. Perhaps he has no clue as to what's going on. Then again, he had his heart set on going to Miss St, is then told by daddy that he must go to Auburn, and then sees daddy rolling in a little bit of cash? $200K is no small chunk of change.
Sorry - I'm going to go out on a limb and say he knows what's going on.

Sorry - I'm going to go out on a limb and say he knows what's going on. You also have to remember that Newton is a 20-21 year old young man who probably has no idea what his father's financial status is. I know when I was that age I had no idea what my dad made money wise or where his money came from. All I knew is that my dad was there for me and that I valued his opinion. This can be the same for Newton presently.
