Isn't it actually kind of sad that just this year Oregon is finally NC contenders?

How much money has Phil Knight pumped into that program and that school over the years? Yeah, they had an excellent year once with Joey Harrington, but they've always kind of been a really good but never great type of team. You would think with the resources they get from Knight and Nike that they would be contenders year in and year out.

I wouldn't say its sad, ....personally its great and i'm getting tired of the florida's, texas', and usc's of the world being in the national title game year in and year out....let's see some "new blood" in the national title game....

I don't mean that. What I was saying is how sad is it of the program that despite all of the money and resources given to them, they're only now becoming relevent in the NC picture.

Their defense sucks which is why I don't think they are true National Title contenders. They very well may go undefeated in the PAC 10 though.

It takes time, though. It takes the first wave like Joey Harrington and those other guys to convince the next waves (who actually hit the whole show) that it's feasible at a "different" type of school.

Realistically, they're probably right on schedule, or pretty close.

yeah, but it's Eugene, Oregon we're talking about. Not exactly the glam capital of the world. It takes time to build a powerhouse. College Football is very much an old boys club. How many other teams have risen to and retained prominence as of late? It's not easy to do, regardless of how much money they have. With that said, Oregon is now poised to become the power team in the Pac 10, and have that national success that Phil Knight has been setting them up for.

Just think about Okie State.....Pickens has pumped a bunch of cash into that program too. At least Knight's support is finally reaping some rewards. Hopefully Pickens' "investment" doesn't ever bring OSU to that level.

They were also on course a couple years back, until Dixon's knee bit it. Now that offense was fun to watch.

I heard somewhere this week (might have been on Murph and Andy) that Auburn spends more money on football than any other school. Number 2 on that list is Iowa. Just an interesting tidbit.

And both athletic departments are extremely unbalanced.

I'm excited to them at Cal tonight. Should be a good game, Cal is tough at home. Go Ducks, hopefully in the all white unis!

If Auburn spends couple hundred thousand a bigtime player, I can see where there money goes. KFc could take a salary cut and buy some better players like Auburn.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style.
