Question on offseason workouts/practice
I was watching the Paul Rhoads show last night and he said they were taking a week off and getting back to work. What kind of practice is allowed now that the season is over?

weight lifting, and running mainly. Players are allowed to practice on their own I believe.

The coaches are essentially allowed to have 8 hours per week of contact with the players, this time includes any lifting, running or team meetings.

Re: Question on offseason workouts/practice
I actually found that kidn of odd because technically, we have a bye next week therefor should be able to practice. I suppose there isn't anything to practice for but I thought we could get soemthing out of it.
I'm on Twitter too: Tre4ISU
Or so I have read. -
Re: Question on offseason workouts/practice
I posed this question yesterday. I assumed that since we didn't have a bye week and since the next weekend was championship week we would have two more weeks of practice to use. Apparently CPR is opting to give the guys a break so I'm just going to assume they aren't going to use the extra practices?

Lick the wounds and move on to the 2011 season.

It's thanksgiving so I assume most of the team is going home for break, otherwise I assume we'd be having practice with the underclassmen.
As far as offseason workouts, even if there aren't formal practices the players can get together on their own as much as they want, and the weight room is always open. Even playing high school football on a mid level team in Iowa we had offseason practices that were run by the team captains.

Re: Question on offseason workouts/practice
hey, we have a bye week this week, so I'd assume full contact until the "season" ends.

Actually, it isn't quite fair for bowl teams to get extra practice. It tends to help the rich get richer. Why shouldn't all teams get to have the extra practice.

Life isn't supposed to be fair, its a reward for out performing others which a bowl team deserves and others dont.

Re: Question on offseason workouts/practice
might as well spend our time getting faster, stronger and bigger. Thats more important right now than how well we run the zone read or w/e anyway.
Look at it this way: we get more time to work on physical training and we don't have to spend time looking at film of other teams and worrying about getting everyone feeling their best for a game to play. Its the offseason! Time to train HARD!

Or, you know, we could give that week off to the team that hasn't had a week off all year...

However, the NCAA does so much to regulate the amount of practice that each team has during the season in order to avoid disparity (and abuse of student athletes). Yet, there is such a discrepancy at the end of the season. Non-bowl teams could still get more practice, but not get the actual bowl game (and money) in order to honor the "life's not fair" angle.

Its not like this team "earned" some vacation. They obviously need some work. Maybe let the seniors have their "week off," but give all the guys who will be here next year all the help they can get. Perfect chance to get a jump start on the spring without having to gameplan for any team. And its not like they aren't getting time off, I'm sure most of them are home right now anyways.
