I think if Capello or Barnett or even Tiller decided to leave ISU if Jantz signs (one would then be the 3rd guy), the posts on here would reflect that they were unwilling to compete. If that's the case, what good would they have done for ISU football anyway. IMO, If you can't compete for the job, you won't compete on the field. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, BTW I wrote in my original post "that I hope he comes in and compete."
Also, how do you know that I am not a long-haired hippy? Or was that just speculation and opinion. My cowboy hat still fits.
A. The hippy part was a joke.
B. You said "I question his desire to compete." seemingly without taking his situation into account. I proposed possible scenarios of how hypothetically he could have left Hawaii for reasons other that not wanting to compete. I think it's a bit presumptuous to assume that he took the "easy route" to JuCo because it was too hard at Hawaii. It's very possible that he has become a much better QB while at JuCo. 33 added some insight stating that the kid broke his freaking leg his senior year. If he broke it bad enough, that could really set back his progress at Hawaii. So much so that maybe he wanted a fresh start at JuCo and a chance to prove himself.
Now, I am just stating my opinion. Maybe I should just go the negative route and "question his desire to compete" or assume the kid must suck because he had to walk on at Hawaii like some other posters.

Now, I am just stating my opinion. Maybe I should just go the negative route and "question his desire to compete" or assume the kid must suck because he had to walk on at Hawaii like some other posters. I have read the same stories that you have read on the internet. So, I know just as much as you do. The kid had a chance to compete at QB chose not to because he knew the he would probably be 3rd. I also read that he would probably not be asked back to camp by the staff at Hawaii. (http://uhfootball.blogspot.com/2009/05/steele-jantz-to-transfer.html
So yes, it's my opinion that he MAY have had issues with competition at QB. Maybe Not. You have to remember that this kid was a 3-year varsity letterman so he is not used to sitting. But, so was Tiller, Capello, and Barnett. So, what will be your "opinion" if one of them left ISU under the same circumstances? Or, if Richardson decides to decommit?
I have also read that he is a great football player with lots of heart, drive, and determination. I'm just weighing everything and not getting overly excited until I see him enroll at ISU and be better than what we have at QB right now. Now, if he was as talented as Cam Newton, and he may be, I would camp out in the snow for season tickets. He may have become a better QB at JUCO. I couldn't say because I don't have any prior stats, video, etc. to compare it to. That makes the opportunity for a great QB battle even better. Or maybe there won't be a battle. He'll just come in and blow all of our QB's away because he's played JUCO. Whatever gets ISU the wins is good with me.
As far as his injury, I also remember that Barnett broke a collarbone and missed the last part of junior season and most of the senior off-season rehabbing. But he obviously came back very well because his senior stats were great, he led his team to a great season, he had several D-1 offers, and according to the sportswriters in Iowa, had a very good red-shirt season learning the system and running the scout team after returning to workouts. JT has come back from knee surgery, and Austen and ARob were less than 75% all season. So,we have/had guys on this team that's dealt with adversity. I don't set them apart.
I'm not being negative, just cautious. But, I trust CPR and his staff and if they feel they need Steele, I'm ok with that. Go Cyclones!

Re: Steele Jantz JUCO QB
Think this is somewhat accurate history. Overall I would have to say I'm waiting to see. Lack of experience as a true starting QB has me wondering how he might do in a big name conference. You do have to admit though that Seneca came out of this leauge, had a history that was non-traditional, and that turned out positive.
2010 - starting QB for CCSF (first real experience as starting QB). Putting up numbers very similar to the numbers Bell put up last year at CCSF.
2009 - Backup QB at CCSF behind Darius Bell. Bell is now at UCLA where he had 0 completions and 1 INT this year. So huge numbers at CCSF does not always translate to big numbers at BCS school.
2008 - Redshirted as recruited walk-on QB at Hawaii. They wanted him to move to a different position. If he did he would get a scholarship. When he refused they helped him find spot a CCSF.
2007 - Nevada Union HS starting QB and safety but was hurt and sat out for first 3 games. Finally got healthy and started in about 4th game of the yeear but broke leg on first defensive series at safety. His younger bother Broughan was one of the QBs that helped fill in as backup.
2006 - Starting WR and Safety for Nevada Union HS. Saw some action as backup QB when starter was hurt. Seems to be first and really only HS QB experience.
2005 - Moved to Nevada Union HS in Northern CA west of Reno/Tahoe area. Was JV running back and backup safety. His older brother Truk was starting TE.
2004 - Freshman year at Crespi HS in LA.
