He's from central Iowa. Surprisingly $200-$300K a year can do a lot to sway people. I know everyone thinks of him as an Iowa State guy since birth but it's not like he attended ISU. Fan growing up sure, but that doesn't do enough to keep a guy passing on a 200K check. For $100K more a year I would give up my job and go work for the University of Iowa. Look at the loyalty Cael Sanderson showed ISU, and he is an alum getting well compensated
If we want to keep CPR long term we're going to have to pay the man more. That means people stepping up in the donation area, even ear-marking for football coach salary.

If pitt wanted rhoads and was willing to pull out the checkbook (say, 2 million) and double his salary, rhoads would be stupid not to at least listen. It doesnt take long for a fanbase to turn on you, only a couple bad seasons, so its always nice to take the guaranteed money while its there.

Best news of the day. Lovely.

Re: Pitt Doesn't Want Rhoads
I'm very interested why Pitt considers his exit negative.

Re: Pitt Doesn't Want Rhoads
I don't blame anyone for leaving for more money, not even Chizik. I mean, I would probably leave my job that I like quite a bit if someone offered me 10k more per year. I didn't like the way GC left, being firmly entrenched only a few hours before accepting his current position. That is why he will always be Chizze**** to me.

Re: Pitt Doesn't Want Rhoads
I don't think coach Rhoads came here to do just a partial job.

Re: Pitt Doesn't Want Rhoads
Football is a business. How many lifers at schools can you think of not named Joe Pa? It just doesn't happen. No reason to think Rhoads is any different.
EVERYONE has a price.

Re: Pitt Doesn't Want Rhoads
Why doesn't Pitt make a run at Ferentz? Isn't he a Pennsylvania guy? They.would really have to open the checkbook for him though.

Re: Pitt Doesn't Want Rhoads
Hey.
Let's lets talk about CPR leaving all week.
Fill the message board with the news that Pitt will be offering and that Paul would leave given enough jack.
I am sure the 3 recruits that Chris has announced will be visiting, would love to have the details, .......... someone else wants our coach .......... we think.
Rumor and speculation do wonders for a recruiting "ambiance."
OF COURSE someone would leave IF given double their salary, and IF the AD was a great personality fit, but a million dollars plus goes a long ways in Ames, and if I'm not mistaken, Pitt was paying Dave about what we are paying Paul.
So, who is going to pony up twice what they were paying the last guy?
(Sorry, I couldn't help it. I just want this week to go as smooooth as possible with the "name" guys we have visiting.)
