    Re: Christian French...

Ferentz would have been overjoyed to have French, stick him at defensive end, and put some muscle on him. Don't let anyone on a board fool ya.
Ferentz has 18 high school quarterbacks on his team. All college teams recruit kids and hope they work at a position. However they also recruit size and speed so they can put them somewhere else if needed. I don't care if they 20 tight ends on there roster. If the kid has size and speed they will find a spot for him.

But from what I hear, French really wanted to play on offense, and I think the WR/TE position is what he was looking at. He would have picked the school that would have given him the best option of playing at a position he wanted to play at.

Also, it would appear that he won't need to change his uniform colors much...

Technically, he's an athlete, but yeah, that's what Oregon recruited him as.

    Re: Christian French...

This has been the big debate on HN since September. People who watched his games came away unimpressed. Said he was soft (didn't like contact) and couldn't catch a cold. But they also said he was a freak of an athlete.

I wish he would have went to Iowa because you can't teach that size/speed combo. But he's definately raw and far from a sure thing.

This one stings for Iowa. Can you imagine something like this happening during the Hayden Fry years? No way.

Iowa isnt exactly hurting at the TE position right now. They got the Fiedorowitz (sp?) kid out of Illinois last year who was a 4 star recruit and it looks like they have two 3 star commits at TE this year

I'll take Ray Hamilton over French any day of the week.

in terms of a sure thing, yeah, you would... but if you want potential you take French 8 days a week. He has a ceiling so far above hamilton, but is far from a guaranteed thing. Athletic ability is insane though

Oregon is building a new west coast empire. They have good coaching, a great system that they run like a machine, a rather down conference in the Pac 10 and Phil Knight pouring millions upon millions into the program. They should be on top for a while

With USC, UCLA, and Washington in the conference? Wouldn't count on it...

Yeah I'm sure they're not too worried about UCLA and Washington. This isn't the 80's or 90's. USC will take to get back to the elite program they were under Carroll. all I'm saying is the Pac 10 is ripe for a team like Oregon to dominate right now

They should be. It wasn't that long ago Washington had a team that could beat a lot of pro teams. Wouldn't write UCLA off either. Lot of money behind tha program.

Not trying to diminish your comments. Oregon is hot right now. No doubt about it.
