Nick Kron (DE) and Brandon Jensen (DT) are coming off redshirt years too, right? Not that I really expect them to contribute too much next year.

I think Kron would just be entering his rredshirt year.
Sure we have bodies but we don't have quality bodies. Maggitt hasn't had any sacks in his 2 years of playing. Neal has 2 and let's be honest, he isn't an every down Big 12 DE. I will also argue that as good as Lattimer was down the stretch, he isn't a guy that can go all game for you.
Than you have Nelson and Moore and they are both relatively unknown. I have a hard time believing Moore will get much PT.
I think a JUCO DE is our most important need. You get pressure on a QB and the safeties don't have to work as hard.
D.Nealy
W.Taumoepau
K.Babineaux
C.Henderson
J.Gaines
K.Daniels OR B.Fiyjamatu(spelling?)
This. We need DE's and DT's REALLY BAD!!
Just because we have numbers at DE, doesn't mean they are any good. And when I found out that Lemke was going to be like our 10th TE or whatever number we have... we've got a problem.
Maggitt and Neal have not shown they are Big 12 caliber DE's by anyone's imagination. Who knows what we have in Nelson or Moore?
And at DT, we basically have nobody that is a sophomore or younger that we are grooming for the future right now. Brandon Jensen is the only commit in the last 2 years at DT basically. That doesn't cut it. Especially with all the doubts if Jensen will ever contribute much?
It is this coaching staff's own fault if we don't have a decent QB or WR's on this roster with all the bodies we've brought in.
The game is still won in the trenches. I'm glad we're building depth on the O-line, but we've neglected the entire front four on the D-line the last two years. It makes me sick to think how bad we are there.
I wonder if a new program could be started where posters on Cyclonefanatic could become unpaid advisors to Coaches Paul Rhoads, Wally Burnham, and Bobby Elliot. Obviously, those three know nothing about how to adequately put together a good defensive team.
I mean how dare a fan of a team have an opinion on said team.
So you're going to ***** about a bunch of TEs, Lemke in particular who wouldn
't contribute at De for two years but you want us to add 2 more DEs. The coaches in the conference obviously thought Lattimer was a pretty damn good pass rusher. Maggitt is capable. I think far too many people are too willing to just determine someone won't ever be a decent play way too early(Tiller and Maggitt). We aren't going to have a DE come in here next year who will be better than Lattimer and from what I have heard on Nelson, we will be fortunate if someone is close to him. Moore had a lot of hype coming into this year. With 5 scholarships left at the most, we need guys at other positions. We need a JUCO DT to go beside Rump. I am confident that we won't improve upon him through a JUCO. You can just pencil him in. We need a LB, particularily a MLB. We need, need, need a big outside receiver. We need a safety. Cotton, I think will be a good player but JJ Gaines is my favorite player we have a shot at. The kid will be good. We could also use Nealy at the slot. I think all of them are more in need than DE right now. You aregue we have no younger guys to groom. I have some news here, bringing in JUCO players does not build depth. It seems some just want to get guys to fill a position. That does us no good if they don't make an impact. It's a waste and that's not how you recruit. PR said it. It's not the guys you don't get, it's the guys you get but don't turn out. To think we are going to get a DE who will immediately change the dynamic is ridiculous.
Couldn't agree with you more. You said yourself... "It's not the guys you don't get, it's the guys you get but don't turn out."
So how do we explain all the WR recruits that haven't panned out? How many more schollies are we willing to waste on more WR's when we have glaring needs on the defensive side of the ball? You tell me.
How many of these guys you speak of are Rhoads guys? One or two? I suppose it depends on how you count Lenz. Either way they are our best two outside of Jake WIlliams. You cannot put the lack of talent on Rhoads' staff. It is obvious they are trying to correct that with West, Gary, Lampkin, Ecby and Nealy. I think those guys have potential. So did Sed. I have no idea why it hasn't happened with him. Rhoads has had two years with these guys and IMO, that's not enough to judge a position coach on nor is it enough to judge the recruiting on. I would like to see these glaring needs on Defense outside of Safety. Rump could be all conference guy next year. Just because you don't see him making a ton of plays does not mean he isn't doing his job. Do you really think that Knott and Klein could get a ton of tackles without the Dline being somewhat competent. They have to be, otherwise the opposing Oline would be able to single block and get to the second level blocking the LBers and then David Sims would have a ton of tackles. If a DT can constantly take a double team, he is doing his job. As for DE, I think we have enough there that no one who we grab out of a JUCO is going to dramatically increase productivity like the right WR could.
