Re: James said bring them on
Sounds like someone isn't happy with the coaching staff over the fact that they didn't get a better shot than garbage time in the UNI game.
The campaign starts now. November 6, 2012. -

The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come. -

The best players also think they are the best. I think this is a great attitude to have. If you are a QB looking at the other QBs and your thoughts are "I don't have a chance", then there is a problem.
With that said, I would expect all of the other QBs on the team are probably thinking the same thing --- that it is their job to lose.
I can't wait to see how this shakes out.

Great to hear, thanks for posting it.

Re: James said bring them on
I love threads like this! All positive stuff, not putting anyone down, or saying "he doesn't have a chance" or 'if this guy plays we are in trouble next year" It's the way it should be. Sports are about hopes and dreams and there are way to many "dream crushers" on this site and most of them don't know squat.
I hope I didn't crush any dreams by saying that.

No offense Mrs Capello,
but does your son know you post on here? A message board is generally a certain over-zealous fringe of the fanbase (which I'm guilty of) and I think you're a little close to the situation.

Re: James said bring them on
Great attitude and love to hear it.
I remember the strength and conditioning giving James some praise last off season and how hard he has worked to improve his game. It sounds like he has all the motivation he needs to get after it again.

Re: James said bring them on
I will take a guy who proclaims the starting job is his and backs it up by working hard to learn the system and improve in every facet of his game any day of the week.

Re: James said bring them on
I'm starting to think next year will be some sort of Hard Knocks reality series to determine our starting QB for 2012. Every QB will start 1 game in 2011, then the QB's who performed well will get another start. Then at the end of the year the winning qb's will be ranked including performance stats such as yards and td's. The top performer will have the honor of leading the 2012 cyclones. No matter how good you are, you're going to lose one-third of your games. No matter how bad you are you're going to win one-third of your games. It's the other third that makes the difference. ~Tommy Lasorda

Re: James said bring them on
Glad to hear that James in embracing the competition at QB and fully expects to win the job. I think ALL of our QB's will have that attitude and will ALL have a shot at winning the job.
Competition will make them ALL better. And they should know that given the nature of football, that they might just be a play or two away from winning the job even if they are not the starter at the beginning of the season. That was what was most frustrating about Phil Bates transferring in the middle of the season a couple seasons ago. Bates basically threw in the towel and left us with no QB depth at all.

It is nice to hear the perspective, but when/if your son takes the reins, there will be a ton of criticism as with any QB. How are you going to react to the first "Bench Capello" thread?

Re: James said bring them on
I love this attitude, if it were my son it's exactly the attitude I would want to see. To answer your cocky versus confident question, I would suggest that you ask James to tell you why he wasn't higher on the depth chart. If he can't tell you or won't tell you, or even begrudgingly tells you what he's doing wrong or where he needs to get better then he's just being cocky; however, if he identifies a few key things he needs to work on then that is the sign of just good solid confidence and hopefully of great things to come next year.
Good luck to James this off season in trying to get better and win the starting role.
