Yet he can't make an NFL roster. He was a product of the system, weak schedule, and talent at the skill positions.

Who cares if he couldn't make an NFL roster? All that matters is he won games and was very good in college. I thought Drew Tate was a great college QB when he wasn't hurt. Same with Chase Daniels. Tate is now a 3rd stringer on a CFL team and Daniels is a 3rd stringer for the Saints. All good college QBS and won games in college, but just won't work in the NFL.

They won games because they were on good teams. It proves that you can win games without a good quarterback. The quarterback isn't the deciding factor in whether or not a game is won.

True, but it still helps to have a solid QB.

His NFL potential is not proof of anything. I agree that he was in the right system with good surrounding talent. But, he still had to perform. Not just anyone can put up the numbers he did. Not saying he was a great college QB, but he was definitely a good one.

I think his lack of being on an NFL team speaks volumes. He was surrounded by talented players and he played against inferior competition. His numbers were inflated because of these two factors, mainly. I bet he wouldn't have put up half those numbers at ISU this season.

It's the most important factor in this offense for the reason you mentioned a few post back, Clement fit perfectly in their system. The QB doesn't have to be the best player on the field but he's the cog that makes the wheel turn. Our offensive woes the last 2 years are perfect examples. Sure AA was talented but he wasn't the ideal fit for our offense and it showed on the field.

Give AA Dillard and Casey and you'd have a point.

Yet Dillard and Casey would still put up the numbers they did against big 12 competition? Cuz you told me if AA had them he'd put up Clement like numbers.

I didn't say that. I'm saying AA didn't have Dillard or Casey so you can't compare his numbers to Clement's numbers. AA had less talent to work with and played a tougher schedule. Comparing their numbers is pointless.

Granted, he may have put up some decent numbers at a JUCO, but nevertheless, it is going to take him a while to get a feel for the offense and the timing with the receivers until he will be able to make any sort of an impact. A qb, even one with skills, can't just be thrown into an offense and expected to produce great results. That's why it takes freshmen qb's time to develop, along with JUCO and other transfers. Look at Masoli, he went from leading a team to the Rose Bowl with a combined 30 touchdowns to a team that finished 4-8. Like I said, it takes time to be able to mesh with the offense and the players, I think ISU would be better off with Tiller running the offense. If it is Steele, I think there's going to be a lot of shocked and disappointed fans, at least for this coming year.
He has a sweet name. Imagine, if you will, the radio call on a touchdown pass. Or imagine some enterprising student coming up with a "Man of Steele" t-shirt. Think of the possibilities! This is why I voted for him.

In actuality, all of the options have positives and negatives. We'll need to see some spring ball and a good competition in practice. Take the poll in the spirit of fun in which it was written.

Ok, so if NFL potential is the only way to judge talent, how many other Rice Owls from that team are lighting the world on fire in the NFL? Dillard and Casey made squads, but have been non factors. Who else?

Face it, there's such a thing as being a good college player, but not having a game that translates well to the pros. That was Clement. Yes he benefited from a good system, but a system doesn't win games. Players do.
