Re: Videoboard... Bored
Just curious, but does anyone know if Iowa State makes more off of Hilton advertising or JTS advertising? That may have something to do with the decision (along with price) to put the ribbon in Hilton before the Jack.
For "I", for "S", forever!
For Iowa State all the way.
Let's go! To show them what the gang's all here for,
Go! To show them how the Cyclones cheer.
For "I", for "S", forever!
For Iowa State do it right!
It's time to climb up on the vict'ry wagon,
Fight! Iowa State, Fight! Fight! -

But.. we probably have bigger priorities first... like the football facility.

Works out to roughly the same number of eyeballs.
Then it all boils down to number of appearances per game, and size of the ad.

Don't confuse hope for a plan. -

There are typically a different group of advertisers for the non-FB/non-MBB sports.

I talked to Jamie about this topic a few months ago... he indicated that the supports would have to be independent of the Jacobson building and as such created problems due to utilities that are located below ground on both sides of the building...

It may be at a low point if things turn south in bball for whatever reason, or it will be when football season ticket renewals begin. Either approach makes sense from a marketing standpoint.
As for the rendering in this post and the size of the videoboard, JP said that the Jake cannot be used to structurally support the board. I believe he also mentioned some fairly specific dimensions on a Monday call-in show during football season. He mentioned square footage and where it would rank nationally (somewhere in the 20s???), but I don't remember the details.
Yeah, I looked at the thread that discussed that, and it was kinda conflicting. He said 3000 sqft but that would be bigger than the 20-29th biggest in NCAA so I figured part of the board would be used for advertising... hence why some of the advertising is on the board in my post.

Rumor on CR was that it would have the same support design as the practice facility. Basically like Mississippi State. It was also rumored to be 34 feet tall. MSU is 47 ft x 111 ft. for 5,217 square ft. That would roughly make ours 34 x 80 for 2,720 sq. ft., the 17th biggest in the country.
Take it for what its worth, but this thing is gonna be huge.
Edit: Also the old one is supposedly going to stay until the south endzone is built. All of this is rumor.

I also said that even if we were to get to 3,000 square feet, 6 times larger than what we have now, it still would not even be half of the size of the board at Texas this past weekend.
Ultimately the final size of the new board will be dictated by design (what fits) and how much we can afford. But this was back in late october.

They have renderings, they just haven't released them yet.
Someone should just email JP.
