Since we haven't gotten an official rendering of the new videoboard and there are no major storms on the horizon to keep me busy at work, I decided to put my photoshop skills to the test and put a videoboard on top of the Jake...
Of course this isn't anything official but it paints a pretty good picture appx. to scale of what it might look like from the east side N 40 yd line.
I estimated a 3000 sq ft videoboard to be 73ft - 41 ft (~16:9). The Jacobsen building from the best I could gather is about 80 feet wide on the south side. So roughly the videoboard would stretch across the width of the building outside of a couple feet.
Enjoy.

This is one of the best concepts I've seen that blends well with the Jacobsen Building. I've always assumed supports would need to be made independent of the building though. Also, you may need to allot some room for speakers.
I've been awaiting renderings from the athletic department for awhile. I'd think they would be coming sooner rather than later.

Yeah, forgot about sound until after I was nearly complete.
The supports are separate from the building in this, and I'm no engineer but I think you'd have to otherwise it'd probably cost you a bunch of money to tear into the Jake... but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Yeah, its a bit surprising there havent been any renderings (has there even been an official announcement from ISU about it?). Wonder if they're waiting until a low point (such as the conference bball season when things will likely be a bit rougher for ISU fans) to give some positive news.

I don't believe an official announcement has been made by the University outside of public statements made to the BoR.

I've also been wondering why we haven't seen any renderings yet. If this is going to be completed before next season, I'm assuming they will start work this spring, so the detailed plans must exist. I think you're right on in terms of timing the release. It may be at a low point if things turn south in bball for whatever reason, or it will be when football season ticket renewals begin. Either approach makes sense from a marketing standpoint.
As for the rendering in this post and the size of the videoboard, JP said that the Jake cannot be used to structurally support the board. I believe he also mentioned some fairly specific dimensions on a Monday call-in show during football season. He mentioned square footage and where it would rank nationally (somewhere in the 20s???), but I don't remember the details.

Looking at other Daktronics projects, it seems like the audio portion is normally hidden behind a screen on top of the board. That screen can be (and usually is) adorned with ads or school logos/nameplates.
So assume the audio would be mounted behind "Jack Trice Stadium" in your mockup, and the text as a screenprint in front of it.
I would bet that there are ad panels along the sides -- a couple static (big corporate), a couple rotating (smaller corporate), and maybe a couple digital (for stats).
I wonder if there is a chance of getting the video board strips (name?) across the stadium like in Hilton. You would think that if they are going to get a video board from Daktronics, they would also go ahead and install these as well. I am sure they are not cheap but it would be a good addition if they have the money.

Think like way over 10 million for that. IIRC. It might even be many times more expensive than that.
"He is the toughest I have ever been around, physically and mentally," Burnham said. "You can beat him down but you’re not going to beat him out. He’s got the mindset of, ‘If you’re going to get me out of this game, you’re going to have to kill me.’ That’s about where he is."

I think that ribbon board is extremely expensive. But, yes, if we had the money, it would look pretty sweet.
The outdoor versions of those "ribbons" cost a lot more.
Understandable. I just figured if ISU had the money to put it in Hilton then why not JTS but if the outdoor versions is more expensive then that makes sense.
