Wally Burnham: Time Table???
Wally has done a great job these past two years at Iowa State with coaching up below average defenses (talent wise) and making them better than expected. He is the best assistant coach on Rhoads' staff (Big Recruiter) IMO. I know he has stated he wants to end his coaching career here at ISU, but does anyone know when that will be? Has he came out and said it? Guesses if not? I would say we have 2-3 more years left with him on this staff.

I'm not sure anyone really knows yet. I think it will all depend on how much success they have. I can see him sticking around longer with more success. If things don't pan out very well in the next 2-3 years, he might decide to spend his springs/summer/fall bass fishing.
I always wondered......do you think Wally goes back to Florida in the winter or do you think PR makes him stick around all winter?

Well I know Wally recruits a lot of the south, especially Florida, and I would think thats when he would spend his time down there. I'm sure coach Rhoads doesn't have that tight of a leash, but I could be wrong.

I hope he is the JoePa of DC's. In my ideal world, he will coach into his 80's.

Wally understands what needs to get done if they want to be successful, so his time in Ames is probably at his discretion.

Every time I think of Wally I picture him 4 feet onto the field in his wide legged hands on knees stance. He has a long time left in him.

He's coaching with his son. As long as that continues, he is going no where.

Re: Wally Burnham: Time Table???
It always felt like a 3-4 year plan for him. If we could get two more years out of him I'd be grateful. I can't imagine ever having a better DC than Wally.

Re: Wally Burnham: Time Table???
I seem to recall when Wally first came on someone asked him how much longer he wanted to coach and he said 10 more years.
Also is Shane being groomed to take his place when he leaves? Is that why Ash left for Wisky?

Ash looks like he made a good decision since he is co-DC there now. Randy Peterson commented that he felt that Shane was a future HC back during spring camp.
