FOOTBALL RECRUITING: Kaleb Johnson to decide on Signing Day
Just got off the phone with Kaleb Johnson, who was in town on an official visit this weekend. Kaleb Johnson - Yahoo! Sports
He told me that he'll make his decision on Signing Day. It is down to North Carolina, Rutgers, Louisville and Iowa State. I'll have more for you in the morning.

Recruiting is becoming more and more exciting for Cyclone Nation. I have to admit, I typically have not been too excited for NSD in the past, but I am looking forward to see the entire class this year.

Watch out for Louisville. They seem to be winning a lot of recruiting battles.

How can you wait until signing day and expect a coach to hold a scholarship for you? Someone help me out here, what am I missing?

Likely hoping for an offer from a school that has yet to present him with one. But you're right. Waiting is riskier for the player as ISU isn't going to hold the schollie hoping he commits. The have to keep offering players to fill the spots.

If you are good enough, even the best programs in the country leave a spot (or open a spot) for you up to or past NSD. What typically happens is the next two or three guys that don't have a great offer are told to wait before signing anything because a spot may open up with ISU. If that kid signs with Louisville, one of those kids gets a call from ISU saying we have a spot. Either that or a grayshirt becomes a spring signee. A few years ago I think the Myers kid from PCM was set to sign with UNI before Iowa snagged him either the day of or just shortly before signing day. He turned out to be a heck of a player and now plays for the Raiders.

I don't suppose he happened to mention whether the coaches are looking at him on offense or defense?
We got a new Marshall here in town, and his name's Paul Rhoads, and the times, they is a'changin'.
