Re: Lonnie Gosha to visit this month
In Rhoads two years here, he has one DT committment(Branden Jensen) who he picked up from a HS 30 miles away. Alot of people talk about Shane Burnham's great recruiting, but he has not gotten any players for his position as the DL coach. Considering DT has been a big need for the last two years, I thought we would actually, you know, get some recruits there. I realize we are not going to pull in the top guys, but we need to start small then and try to build some depth with lesser known talent. That hasn't happened either.
Kaleb Johnson used a visit to come see us, but now he is saying he might make his decision before national signing day. Translation, I will commit to the U after my visit. I have not seen any evidence that this staff can bring in a top DT, yet suddenly we are going to bring in a 4 star DT with about 13 offers according to Rivals, of which we are not even mentioned?
Visiting is a start, but we need some commits. If a kid uses all 4 visits, guess what? 80% of those schools do not get a commitment.

Who do you propose we go get? Should we go grab 5 warm bodies to take up scholarships even if they will never play a down? That certainly doesn't make sense to me.

You seem to think that 6'5" 280 kids with the athleticism and strength to play the D-Line are in every high school in America. Players at skill positions are a dime a dozen, but quality interior linemen are hard to come by. CPR is going to have to bring in some projects, bulk them up, coach them up and hopefully they will be developed by their junior year or so.
It seems like CPR is doing all he can to secure what quality linemen there are out there but the truth of the matter is that he is fishing in a very small pond.

I am just letting my frustration get to me. I live down in Texas now, and watched a Dlineman play for Cinco Ranch. Name Mike Mustafa. He looked about 6-5, with a masssive frame that a good strength coach could mold into something special. The best thing was their fans said he had interest from ISU. Yet nothing came of it.
The fact is you can take a warm body that is willing to earn that scholly and make him into somethign special. I watched a guy for Iowa named Karl Klug, who came from nowhere, become the best defensive lineman on that team, and that includes AC. A good coach can turn that warm body into a productive player. But we need that body.

My point is that just because we don't have 6'5 290 lb. guys on the commit list doesn't mean there isn't a DT in there somewhere. They can't all play QB, LBer and TE.

Go with the flow, brett. Recruiting is awesome every year. ISU never misses. The coaches get everybody they want and nobody they don't. That's why ISU's best season in the last five is 6-6. Because ISU always gets everybody it needs and they are all sensational super blue chippers. The CF experts say so. Don't rock the boat!!!

The way the staff is scambling to get these DTs here, and that they are looking at guys like Bobby Richardson, at whom no one has looked before, lead me to believe the staff does not think there is a DT in this class.
Trust me, if we can get a guy like Lonnie Gosha to come, I will be the first to fall on my sword. I just don't think we have ever been able to pull a recruit like him, and while I like CPR, I don't think the resume is good enough yet to start. There are no shortcuts at ISU.

I think that you misunderstand the definition of a "warm body". Karl Klug was not a "warm body". A "warm body" was what Danny Mac signed altogether too much of over his tenure--especially along the offensive line. Guy's without the base athleticism to ever contribute anywhere, but fills a roster spot, and looks like you have a player. That's what a "warm body" is.

If you don't go along with the group think here, you get shouted down. So yeah, that really is what is being said. ISU sports is flawlessly wonderful and perfect. No mistakes or failures, ever! Hugs!!!

So your issue with Bobby Richardson is that he isn't being recruited by anyone and then you sight an example of an unheralded lineman that blossomed into a star as your rationale for this argument. It is all starting to make sense now.

Re: Lonnie Gosha to visit this month
Why does everyone have to bash people on here?!?! Brett obviously is just frustrated with our lack of recruiting the DT position. He just cares too much and is letting his emotions take over his posts.
