Flattering McCarney article in Dallas Morning News
This article appeared on the top of the front page of the Dallas Morning News Sports Section this morning (Wed., 2/16). It's a nice write up on McCarney as he takes over the UNT football program. I'm pleasently surprised that it got top billing on the Sports Page.
I live in Plano (just north of Dallas) just 45 minutes away from the UNT stadium. I'm planning to go to at least one of the games this season to see their new stadium and to watch McCarney in action.

The man can give an interview better than maybe any coach in America. And he is a self promoter like no other.
Good to see that he hasn't lost his touch.
It used to drive me nuts when I would read the dozens of articles every year where he would tell the reporter that he "understood that we were never going to have as much as other schools" and how it was no excuse for not winning. And then in the next sentence make a bunch of excuses, and how much he had to overcome to have the "success" that he had here. It was a Dan interview. The mention that Iowa State would get was for having the patience to retain him as the coach even though the record was what it was.
At least he saved the most of the meaningless misleading stats for the radio, and tv.
Hopefully for the sake of the fans of North Texas 10 years from now they won't have to read about how much he overcame to be 30 games under .500 for them.
