Smoking Gun? Report: Auburn Offered Cecil Newton $180,000
I don't know if any of you CFers have noticed this article on the NBC Sports website, but reports of Auburn offering Cecil Newton a sizeable chunk of change (reportedly $180,000) for Cam's services appear to be gaining "traction" in the media. The report also states that, surprise, surprise, Cam himself was present at one of the meetings (in spite of his denials) when a money exchange was discussed.
The Southeastern Conference and the NCAA have had their "heads in the sand" over this situation from day one, but if these reports continue to escallate, they will have no choice but to reopen their, thus far, feeble investigations.
Who knows, maybe it's just a matter of time before Gene Chizek's two-year record at Auburn will go from 22-5 to 8-19.

Nobody but HB knows for sure. You pretty much know nothing....like Knownothing would like to say.

I only hope that the truth comes out and if appropriate Auburn gets a super harsh penalty.

The NCAA made their bed by clearing Auburn and allowing Newton to play in the BCS title game. To go back now and vacate Auburn's title would be big time egg on the face

Words cannot express how funny I think this would be.

As is usually the case, the NCAA will be ok with getting egg on their face now that the money's in the bank.

Auburn's national championship is temporary. It's going to be fun to watch.

They made their bed when they ruled him eligible for the Georgia game. They've had their fun, now its time for the consequences. SEC commish will also have to step down.

Makes you wonder which Auburn fans will miss most - their landmark oaks (a true tragedy), or their BCS championship as well as eligibility over the next X years (something they have been denying but should have seen coming).

I'll believe it when I hear/see it. That radio host is a die-hard 'Bama fan, who's starting a new radio show in a couple weeks, which is where he's playing the tapes. I'm not saying he's lying, but there are enough reasons to keep me from buying at this point.

First off how many times does Auburn have to get caught cheating before they quit. They are getting as bad as SMU.
yes the SEC commish will come down hard. Not because they paid newton but they paid more than Tennessee which is a markee SEC team. He will be disappointed that Tenn. did not get him and win the National Title. It would be like us outbidding Texas for a recruit then winning the big 12. Heads would role.
