Re: Chris, I have to completely disagree about Tiller winning QB spot
Right now it is a four man race. But, in my opinion it will come down to two different competitions. Jantz and Capello the starting job, then Tiller and Barnett for the third string position.
I'm not saying Tiller can't get better, but in my opinion I don't think he can make that big of a stride to win the competition. I personally hope Barnett is good enough already to take that three spot also so we can move Tiller. Hes athletic enough that we can use him on the field, just not at our most important position.
From what I've seen out of Tiller, I don't think his the best fit for THIS offense. Now, if we were to switch to say an option based offense then yes, Tiller is who I want. If we want a passing offense that likes to air it out from what I hear about Jantz he would be the guy. And if we want an offense based on the short passing game Capello would be the guy IMO.
We SHOULD have a pretty good OL and running game, I have faith in Wally to put out a solid defense. The WR's need to step up. Capello might be the best option unless Jantz turns out to be more accurate than him. I just don't think Tiller is accurate enough to run this offense.. but he is easily the best athlete out of the four.

No, Tiller hasn't been great so far in his Iowa State career. But competition sometimes sparks guys and up until now, this has always been Austen's team.
Why not root for a guy to defy the odds and become the quarterback that we all hoped he'd be from day one?
I hope that Steele Jantz is the next Seneca Wallace. I really do. But what if he isn't? You need more than one guy and if Tiller goes out there and proves to the coaching staff that he has grown and that he is the best man for the job, why is that a bad thing?
That was my point. Chris, I'm right with you. IMO Jantz was brought in strictly as competition for Tiller. At worst we have a legitimate back up with Jantz and if Jantz wins the job we have an experienced back up and WE WILL NEED TWO QB'S this year at sometime. Barnett and Capello just aren't ready yet.

Re: Chris, I have to completely disagree about Tiller winning QB spot
About a month ago, I took the time to watch and evaluate the junior and senior highlights of Jerome Tiller, James Capello, Jared Barnett, Sam Richardson, and (more recently) the junior highlights of Grant Rohach. It took quite a few hours, but I found it interesting. I would recommend doing it. Draw your own conclusions.

To bad your opinion goes against anything the coaching staff have said. They have expressed there displeasure with the quarterback position and there lack of comfort having the offense in the hands of Tiller unless he improves.

I guess a lot of it could be his video had things I wanted to see that a lot of videos don't. It wasn't all touchdowns. There were some tough short throws in there that impressed me. What did you think?

I think your exactly right and I thought it was obvious. The staff wasn't comfortable where Tiller was and they didn't see enough from Barnett or Capello to think they would be a sufficient improvement. Worst case scenario, Jantz lights a fire under Tiller. I think it will be interesting to see how these guys will all handle this. If I'm Tiller, I'm a little ****** they brought him in but I welcome it just so I can put in the work and kick his ***. I hope that's his attitude. Time will tell.

Re: Chris, I have to completely disagree about Tiller winning QB spot
We are in trouble with whomever wins the job we just do not have any really outstanding QB's sorry to be negative nancy, but it is true. lets be honest when you do not have a clear cut favorite before or at the end of spring practices at qb the team is in trouble and that is what we are. I am hoping and praying I get proved wrong, but time will only tell.

There is a reason Steele Jantz is here because we do not know who will be the starter.
