Haven't heard anything, but if I recall, he was an athletic freak who might not have been a great football player yet. If true, it might take him a while to "get it". But when he does, I could see him being a nice player for us.
Honestly, he is the one guy who I just don't get. I don't get why he's a LBer unless his atheleticism was slightly exaggerated and perhaps he doesn't have the speed we thought. I guess I would have just thought with the questions at Safety and his reported athleticism, he was cut out to be a safety. I'm not arguing with the coaches but I would like to hear the reasoning here.
In one of the shots of him, he ran his guy back into the endzone. Now, that's not effective because he didn't make a play that mattered but for only being 200 lbs that's at least a little bit positive. He's just a RS freshman at arguably our best position group in terms of the starters and is second on the depth chart. I think he'll be fine but it may take time. Could be a really good special teams player this year.
Looks like the linebacks and Dbacks didn't stand a chance. Looked like they were getting held or whatever it took to keep them away from the backs.
Yeah, and the Dlinemen should have had a chance either with no handoff and the RBs taking right off. A couple nice plays in there by the Dline. I really like the quickness of all our backs. Woody even made a couple nice little hop steps.
The funnel drill is a good one. Shontrell obviously looked quick but (#8's) white's feet were looking good too.
Mattison-
With his skill set (from recruiting word) he will be an excellent addition to special teams during his RSFr year, then hopefully he grows a little without losing the quicks.
