Disagree with our receivers being "average"
I think we've had some talent and the coaches and QB haven't gotten them involved. That has to change this year. Were the receivers responsible? Somewhat. They had some drops. More of an issue, I think, is them not getting consistent looks.
Arnaud locked in on Franklin last year and threw a bunch of dumpoffs to Robinson. You can't put the YPC woes solely on the WR's. We haven't had a QB who's comfortable stretching the field in a while. Let's hope that changes this year. http://www.desmoinesregister.com/art...ut-2011-season -
Re: Disagree with our receivers being "average"
The talent at WR is average. If we had playmakes, CPR would certainly have used it. While we think we have playmakes, compare these guys to the top 10-15 WR's around the country, and tell me any of them even remotely compare. We just don't have any exceptionally talented WR's on the team at this point. (or at least that have seen playing time) Hopefully that changes soon with recruiting.

They weren't even as good as average last year.

The drops aren't the only issue. Our receivers can't get separation from their defenders either. Everyone wants to blame our offensive ineptitude on Arnaud the past couple of years, but his only choice most of the time was to try to force throws into tight spaces because his receivers weren't getting open. Those forced throws led to picks at worst, and short gains at best. We don't have anyone who can create space for themselves and break away from defenders when they do actually catch the ball.

Slants were behind the receiver, outs behind or low. We did not hit players in stride and the long passes were infrequent for a reason. ISU needs an accurate QB to find out just what our receivers can do.

Re: Disagree with our receivers being "average"
It was more often that our receivers dropped balls/failed to get separation than it was that our QBs missed the mark. Our QB play wasn't great, but the receivers were a bigger problem.
If you give Arnaud and Tiller DJK and Marvin McNutt, most on this board would probably have a wildly different opinion of them (Arnaud and Tiller).

I disagree as well. They were more below average.

Re: Disagree with our receivers being "average"
Until proven otherwise, they are actually below average.

Re: Disagree with our receivers being "average"
I just want to get some guys that can get some separation. Hopefully Reynolds, West, and the crew can improve and make it easier on our inexperienced QB's this year.

Re: Disagree with our receivers being "average"
The entire offense has been below average and needs to step up if we are going to try and work our way out of the bottom half of the B12

Re: Disagree with our receivers being "average"
Let's put it this way.... our passing game was "below average".... especially considering the offensive scheme we run.
Whether it was the QB, the WR's, or the OL not giving Arnaud enough time, I'm not sure? But it didn't work. I was at the point last year where I was calling for Tom Herman's head. And I will be again this year if this offense doesn't start producing. Where are the gaudy numbers that he put up at Rice?
If it's the QB, then get someone that can run it. If it's the OL, get some guys that can block. And if it's the WR's fault, then get some guys that can get open, make the catch, and make a move.
Whatever the problem was... fix it. That's what you're paid to do. If you can't, then there are any number of good offensive coordinator's around the country that would love your job.

Re: Disagree with our receivers being "average"
I saw very little separation and a lot of dropped balls. That is not the QB's fault. Maybe it is the routes we run. IDK. But we just don't get guys wide open. And when we have they dropped it anyway.

Installing a system, especially when you have guys that weren't recruited for it, takes time. If we're canning guys before they have their system in place, we'll never get anything going.
At least you're identifying yourself as someone who will be insufferable if things aren't rainbows and unicorns this fall.

Re: Disagree with our receivers being "average"
Dwayne Bowe used to suffer from dropped passes bad... Once that stopes he became a Pro Bowl WR. He still had the talent before this year.

Re: Disagree with our receivers being "average"
I'd say below average. Franklin caught a lot of balls last season at tight end so I don't believe it was our QBs faults. Lots of dropped balls and recievers unable to get open or create any separation at all. Our yards after catch was not all that impressive either. I think there's going to be an improvement at the position this season.
