Spring Football: Rony Nelson, Defensive End Report
Here's the latest on how Iowa State's defensive ends are developing this spring. Enjoy. Spring Football: Developing depth, key at DE | Cyclone Fanatic -
Re: Spring Football: Rony Nelson, Defensive End Report
I dissagree that Maggitt got better because of Lattimer. Maggit got "better" because he finally got playing time. If I remember correctly Maggitt and Lattimer were put into first string the same week. Maggitt went back to Parker's backup once Parker got healthy, but Maggit still played more than Parker.
Lattimer AND Maggitt are why the D got better.

rony nelson seems like a 2nd/3rd and mid/long guy right now. I know im not the only one hoping he could come in and make a strong immediate impact.

Lattimer AND Maggitt are why the D got better. This. Maggitt got a shot and showed a large amount of improvement from 2009. This will be a solid line for once in several years. Lattimer is First Team All Big 12 IMO this year.

first team all big 12 is a long shot. i hope you're right. usually they need better guys around them to attract attention away. im not sure that will be the case.

LMAO. Lattimer wasn't very effective after the Texas game.

Lattimer was owned by Solder from CU. Granted, Solder is a first round OT, but I don't think CW gave nearly enough credit to Maggitt. People see a few sacks that Lattimer picked up, but it was still a very low total. Maggitt's run support and consistency made the defense better, not Lattimer.

You're seriously just making things up.

You're seriously just making things up. You seriously make me question if you have ever played football. How many tackles do you expect out a DE?

Re: Spring Football: Rony Nelson, Defensive End Report
IMO, I think the improved defense line play was based on better group effort. But it started when Latt came in.
When the Oline can focus on stopping a couple players, and we don't blitz very often, we get very little pressure.
Insert a couple better D'ends, and it starts making everyone look better. Look at Texas. Yes, I know Texas was down, but they were still very good athletes, and most of our line camped out in their backfield because they had to worry about stopping everyone on the D'line, and couldn't just double team our best guy.
The Texas game still kills me how many holds they got away with trying to stop us.

You're seriously just making things up. Can I make something up? No one new who Lattimer was until the Texas game and he was Big 12 honorable mention. People were impressed.
