Spring Football: Injury Notes

This is for those of you who haven't had the chance to watch Coach Rhoads' press conference from earlier today. He noted the following injuries during his opening statement.

- DE Rony Nelson has a concussion and is out for the rest of the spring.

- CB Jeremy Reeves had wrist surgery yesterday. He has been playing with this old injury for "some time" and the staff wanted to take care of it now so that he'll be 100 percent in august.

- C Sam Tautolo will miss the rest of the spring with a bruised shoulder.

- WR Josh Lenz is back playing after recovering from an ankle injury.

(knocking on wood as I say this)....I really hope these two can stay 100% healthy for the whole year. We need them, and I think they will do some nice things.

Nice things as in catch the ball with some consistency.

The news about Nelson being out for the remainder of the spring with a concussion makes me wonder if that is why he was listed #3 on the depth chart....

Depending on when this happened it could just be an indication that the coaches haven't seen much of him yet this spring. Who knows...

With that plus his off season health issues, Nelson may not be making an impact until the 2012 season. Thats too bad, but with Lattimer back, I don't think it hurts us too much.

Early reports from spring camp were that Nelson could possibly be effective as a pass rush specialist this year, but needed to work on run support. I have a feeling that if he gets healthy shortly after spring ball that he can still provide a boost to the pass rush. However, I think it will probably set back his development with run support. He is still an athletic and talented pass rusher (from what we've heard) if he can get back on the field.
